A popular store is under fire for selling a Christmas ornament that some claim mocks violence and murder victims.
In a story first reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Urban Outfitters, a national chain based out of Philadelphia, is selling glittery handgun ornaments and some are calling for a boycott if the store doesn’t take it off of the shelves.
On the store's Web site, the product description reads, “Bust a cap in your tree with this super glittery ornament in the shape of a handgun, complete with a satin ribbon for hanging.”
Some think its funny, some think it’s unattractive, and one mother in particular said it’s tasteless – especially in a city plagued with 360-plus killings in 2006.
Shirley Boggs lost her son to gun violence and is a part of Mothers United Through Tragedy, and she said she plans to captain a protest outside the store Tuesday if they gun ornaments are not removed.
“It’s a joke, but it’s not a joke to my self and my parents and all these other families who are literally losing loved ones,” Boggs said.
“This is not what your children should see on a Christmas tree,” she added.
