A frustrated city council heard all the arguments for religious displays during the holiday season and decided they were better off without any of them. "The Christmas trees aren't a problem because they were originally pagan," said Councilman Ben Manvel. "If we allowed the menorah and a creche, then we'd end up with a parade of other religious symbols."

What got me about this one was the broad statement that "we can keep the Christmas tree because that was originally pagan".

I agree that everyone should be recognized for who they are. But you cant always be politically correct. Besides - Hanukkah is celebrated within days of Christmas. But they do not call it Hanukkah or Kwanza they call it Christmas season. But it also depends on what faith or ideology you have as well. But it is generally understood that the week of December 25 is Christmas.

No way, Jose...you're our resident pagan expert, Elfworks. So tell me, at what point did the pagans put up a Christmas tree and say it wasn't sacred or a religious symbol?
