Most families have something that they just have to do every Christmas...like with my family: Since I was 2 years old, we've gone to the Morehouse-Spelman Glee Club Annual Christmas Carol Concert. They've been putting the concert on since before Martin Luther King Jr. graduated from there! I love it so much that I've actually made it apart of our wedding festivities (the concert runs from December 5-7 this year). I missed it during college only a couple of times, but I always tried to make sure I'd make it back home for it!

Is there a Christmas pageant, concert, event, etc that you go to every year?

Yeah...I wrote about it here before...my city does this since 92 or 93...I´m not sure....there are two churches close to each other...on each towers, there are trumpet players and musicians with instruments like this and they play Christmas Carols...between the Churches a huuuge crowd of people gathers to listen to the songs....the last song is always
"Oh Du Fröhliche"...and everybody sings along.
People are also selling Glühwein and Hot Orange Juice and Bratwursts and Brezels to keep warm and cozy.

I´m feeling a bit stupid to ask....but what is a pageant`? I always keep reading it on the net and can´t really figure out what it is. Would be nice if someone could make me a bit smarter...:D

We participate in our churches Christmas Pageant every year. In this case it's not a beauty pageant it's just a fancier way of saying PLAY lol.

Oh and I forgot to add we also take part of our towns Christmas Parade every year. My daughters help decorate a "float" for their 4H Club.

You might want to check the 2008 Holiday Radio Schedule thread in the music forum too. Many of the choral concerts are recorded and aired on public radio. I'm pretty sure the Morehouse-Spelman Glee Club special is.

Every year my sister's family & my husband and I go to the annual Holiday Festival in the town we grew up in (our parents still live there). It used to be a simple daytime parade with Santa at the end when we were kids, but now it's all day festival downtown with carriage rides, a petting zoo & sidewalk sales. All the local businesses pass out hot cocoa too. :) Around 7, the parade starts and all the floats and cars are decorated with lights--it's really cool! Afterwards, everyone meets down at the city hall for the tree lighting ceremony and visits with Santa. Oh--and they always have a giant Christmas mailbox set out for letters to santa that is up from Thanksgiving-Christmas Eve. It's a very cool, traditional small-town Christmas kind of thing--I love it!

My husband and I started something new last year. We went to see our local Orchestra play their holiday set. It was breathtaking and completely heightened my christmas spirit. We hope to make it a tradition with our children.

When I was a child, my parents took my sisters, brother and I to a place called Koziar's Christmas Village out in Pennsylvania. After about 9 years passing since we've all gone together, I went with my husband and brother and wondered why we stopped going. I also plan on adding this to my christmas traditions. For those of you not familiar with Koziar's Christmas Village, check out their site:

A church in a town not too far from my house always does this Christmas Pageant called "The Search for Peace". It's a wonderful program done completely in the dark, spotlights are put on the actors during their scenes. I don't know how they move around in the dark to get set up but suddenly the light comes on and there they are in place.
The nativity scene is beautiful with angels coming down the asles wearing sparkling wings and flowing clothing. The singing is quite professional. One year my son-in-law had a part in the play. The clothing on the wise men is so rich and beautiful looking.

At the end they ask everyone to sing in unity. It's a wonderful time but parents are cautioned about taking small children if they are afraid of the dark since there are periods when you are in total darkness.

My sons' band concert and my daughters' chorus concert! Other than that we don't usually attend any other Christmas functions.
