View Full Version : I Rescued A Human Today

I rescued a human today.
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today.
Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life. She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

Forget holding them back!! My tears are FLOWING! That was so precious!! If I had the money/space I would adopt every single animal from the shelter!! I like kitties, but I developed an allergy after my cat of 13 years passed :( so it's definitely dogs for me!! Adopt a pet today!!!

This makes me want to cry. I too was rescued by a kennel dog. She is the best little doggie ever. I always say to anyone looking for a pet to adopt from a shelter. Please! These are perfectly good pets just waiting for a home. My Maggie is my little sweet baby and I can't even stand to think of the day that she isn't with me anymore. Everyone should be rescued by a little fur ball with a wet nose!

thanks Speedy Elf...that was a beautifull story....I would adopt a dog, too from the Shelter...we have a cat already....but in Germany You have to pay taxes for dogs....and we can´t afford it...:(...I can´t even walk by the animal shelter without wanting to cry when I hear the dogs whine and on....:(

That is so, so beautiful!
I'll show my sister in law that one later :) She'll love it too
My two cats were saved too. My husband adopted the eldest (or, the cat adopted him - I forget), who was covered in fleas, skinny and out in the cold. The second cat, my husband found that was living in a skip in a builders yard. Again, she was skinny, frightened of everything, had a hurina (sp??), and needed us. They are now both pampered house cats that even get stockings at christmas lol.
Similar stories for my sister in law. Only she has adopted 3 cats :)

Our lab we got as a pup from a reputable breeder.
Our two cats we found at our vets. Strays are always being dropped off there and he is always taking them in and finding loving homes for them. We had a kitten we had gotten from a local shelter. Five days after, she took gravely ill, our vet said there was no hope and we needed to have her put down. We were devastated! Shortly after our vet phoned us and said they had a momma cat for us. She was only one, she had already had kittens, been fixed then taken to a new home. Only to be returned when that family's cat would not accept her. Were we interested?
We went and saw her. Only one problem in the very next kennel were kittens looking for homes. So yes, we became the proud new family to one grown cat and one kitten. Gilbert is now 6 and Simba is 5. Yep, both are female and were named by our DS and oldest DD, who happened to be 3 and 1 at the time. We adore them. They sleep each night with our two daughters.

All 5 of my babies are pound puppies. There is nothing better than the unconditional love we can get from our animals. I do believe they rescue us. God bless them all.

I agree, why pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for a pet when you can rescue one? My dog was a rescued dog, but the family that had her couldn't keep her, so we took her then. I can't imagine life without her! She's about 75 lbs and thinks she's a teacup poodle, she's always trying to cuddle in my lap, she's such a sweetie!

My little fat dog roxy is from the pound and she's the sweetest dog. The best thing about pets is after a long day at work their the happiest to see you.

Hehe! My dog is the complete opposite. She's a 25lb bundle of fur that thinks she's a big dog. cheesy
We adopted out last dog from the SPCA and were devastated when because of medical reasons, she had to be put down. We adopted another dog at the SPCA soon after that looks almost exactly like her. That's where the similarities end though, they have totally different personalities. My kids are always asking if we can adopt another one... We not only have stocking stuffers, but presents bought for her and the kids are totally thrilled. I think she may be a little spoiled.
