EXCERPT:
When I was a young boy, the War on Christmas didn't start until November. After cursing those genocidal Pilgrims over a hearty turkey dinner, there'd be a nip in the air, maybe the first light dusting of snow, and my pa would take me on his knee and say, "Son, it's time to persecute us some Christians."
More recently, I noticed they started declaring the war's start before Halloween even got going. But there was something appropriate about that -- Satan's holiday and all.
...
It's *sniff* kind of sad.

Lowes was doing this, they said they wont this year because it caused confusion
Target allegedly wont either because of a 700,000 person boycott.
We'll see i guess
funny that target alway carries those big Santas & large NATIVITY scenes. what HOLIDAY are they for?

It's under Christmas Controversies - Is it right to take religious connection out of Christmas?

I posted this last year on another forum:
I stopped into Target today to pick up a couple of things. While strolling through the “seasonal” isle I noticed a sign that read: “30% OFF ALL HOLIDAY TREES”.
I never heard of a "Holiday Tree" so I had to ask about them. I went directly to the service desk and asked the woman if they had Christmas Trees. I told them I saw a sign for 30% off all Holiday Trees, but didn’t see any Christmas Trees there. I wanted to know if they would be getting any soon as I was looking to buy a Christmas Tree, not a Holiday Tree. The woman told me that they were all Christmas Trees. I told her that they must be all out because all the signs said "Holiday Trees". Frustrated, she called the manager over.
I explained to the manager that I was looking to purchase a Christmas Tree and that all I could find were these things called Holiday Trees. At this point they were both looking at me like I was a complete idiot. The manager said that they were indeed Christmas Trees, but again I insisted that there were only Holiday Trees in the isle. I then apologized for wasting their time and explained that I really wanted to purchase a Christmas Tree and not a Holiday Tree and would have to go over to Walmart.

We could go to the mall and ask what holiday the "holiday" ornaments are for.

And you can't order a half dozen chicken nuggets
Me: I'd like a half dozen chicken nuggets
Them: We don't have half dozens. We have 12 or 6.
Me: You mean I can get 6 nuggets, but not half a dozen
Them: right
BUH!

I was in the mall last week and thought I'd splurge at Gloria Jeans. I checked my pocket and sure enough, I had a fiver itchin' for a new home. I bought the medium size (not sure what they called it) Pumpkin Spice chiller. Oh, baby, do those taste nice. But they can't be had for a fiver. Luckily the college boy behind the counter was a psych major because I sunk into depression. "You mean I can buy nearly two gallons of gas or milk but can't buy a medium cup of crushed ice with Pumpkin fart sprayed on it?" So I fessed up with the extra 19˘ and went home smiling anyway.

Well, people, the reason why we use Holiday more than Christmas is because the Holiday season is NOT just about Christmas alone.
As a matter of fact, the Holiday season deals with THREE holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.
That explains why people want to say Holiday Tree and Happy Holidays and such.

You would just eat them. The Happy Holidays greeting is all-encompassing, but the idea of a holiday tree for the same reason is bogus. It just came about in the last few years as another PCism. Maybe communism is the best way to go. No one gets left out. No one gets ahead. No one's feelings are hurt.
