Get Christmas help from Salvation Army

Richmond Times-Dispatch
September 8, 2006

Starting Monday, the Salvation Army over the next two weeks will register people in need of assistance at Christmas.

Help is open to anyone in need, including families and seniors. Parents of children ages birth to 15 years may register for toys, stockings and other gift items.

Salvation Army spokesman Jeff Baldwin said registrants do not sign up for specific programs but might receive aid from programs such as Angel Tree, Toys for Tots and the Richmond Christmas Mother.

Registration must be completed in person. Individuals registering for assistance must bring a picture ID and proof of guardianship for any children they are registering.

Acceptable proof of guardianship includes birth certificates, insurance/Medicaid cards and/or Social Security cards.

Registration is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Salvation Army Richmond Area Command at 2 W. Grace St., Sept. 11-15 and Sept. 18-Sept. 22. Additional dates, locations and times will be announced later.

I noticed that the particular dates and times for this registration process differ from city to city, so you might want to check locally before passing this word on to any potential recipients.
