Ok, are there any other candle fanatics out there? If so what are your favorite brands/scents? Do you have a "candle lady" or do you buy all your candles from a store?
I almost always have a candle burning at home in the fall & winter. My sister says our house smells like a Halmark store! Really, it's not that bad..that would give me a headache! :-? I have a candle lady! She has been a friend for 10 years & she just started selling candles this year! Yay!!! :-D I had a candle lady about 10 minutes from my house, but she sold her business. :-( BUT, my friend (5 hours from me) learned learned how to make candles from my original candle lady, so all is good! I just have to make a 5 hour trip to get them! Good reason to visit! Anyway, if I don't order candles from her, I like to by Yankee, or Village candles. My favorite scents are:
Macintosh Apple
Creme Brulee
Spiced Pumpkin
Vanilla Buttercake
Cappuccino Brulee (this is my favorite candle when it's snowing!) 8)
Orange Sherbert
Butter Cream
Mulled Cider
Home Sweet Home
Banana Nut Bread
Magnolia
Cinnamon Stick
Sugar Cookie
Hazelnut
Blueberry Cobbler
Cinnamon Bun
Cucumber Melon
Pearberry
Warm Vanilla Sugar
Coconut Cream Pie
Christmas scents:
Yankee's Hollyberry
Christmas Eve
Home For The Holidays
Christmas Wreath
Christmas Tree
Christmas Cheer
Christmas Essence
Snow
Sugar Plum
I'm sure there are more I've forgotten! Lol! Last night I bought Yankee's Autumn Leaves (could possibly be added to my favorites list? Smells awesome), Amber Sunset, Berry Crumble, & Macintosh & Peach. They all smell wonderful, but I haven't burned them yet! What a great time of year for burning candles!! Now I can't wait to get home from work to light my candles!! :???: Please share your favorites!!

there are, at this moment, 230 candles sitting out in my apt. they all get burned at various times during the day. this is the fall grouping. closer to halloween another couple dozen will be set out and then removed after the ghosties go. during spring and summer, just at 200.
for xmas, the total is closer to 400 candles. this is a 1 br apt peeps. :D

How do you have time to light 230 candles every day, even on a rotating basis? Do you hire ex-priests/nuns, who have candle lighting experience? Doesn't your smoke alarm get tired or has it learned to distinguish between candle smoke and flaming furniture? Last question, do you even have to run the heat in the winter, between all the Christmas lights and the candles?

i never ever turn the heat on in the winter. i would always rather put a sweater on, get comfy cosy, than have my skin dry out. i hate central heat. as for finding time... never had a problem.

Elfworks!! I love it!!! That's a lot of candles to light!! And what about a smoke alarm? Can you even have one??? Lol! I probably have 230 candles in my house, but they are not all out. Most are in boxes! I normally have 1 burnining in the kitchen 2 in the tv room, 1 in the basement, & sometimes 1 in our bedroom. But if company is coming, I light the 3 votives in our bathroom, the 5 votives on the dining room table, the votive in the upstairs bathroom, & 1 or 2 extra in the basement. Now at Christmas time I always have the 3 in the bathroom going, the 5 on the dining table, & probably about 10-15 others. I think that's a lot (mine are all scented), & we have a 1 1/2 story, 3 BR, 2 bath, fixed up basement house! Lol!! You go girl!!! :wiggy:

I go to the Yankee Candle store every month. I get the larged jars because my kitten is less prone to get into trouble with the deep jars than ones with open flame.
I get the hot oil wall units, too. I keep 4 of the jar candles going in the house while I'm home, and 9 of the wall units keep the party going while I'm away.
During the summer I like:
Macintosh
Mint
and I keep Spring Rain going in my clothes closet.
During the cooler months I love:
MacIntosh
Autumn Leaves
Spiced Pumpkin
Gingerbread Maple
Christmas Tree
Christmas Wreath
Mistletoe

I don't have a spouse or parents around either so I can do what I want. I love candles too but I don't have 230 of them. We have a place here that makes these candles out of soy. They smell great! The scent last to the end. They are easy to clean once burned down you can use them as a class. They are made by an envirmentally conscious chemist. Everything is reuseable and nothing is through away. The soy burns evenly too. It's like an oil almost. They are great! There's one called Christmas Spirit. I really like that scent the best.

Before I left Denver this week I stopped by Yankee and purchased two candles -- one, we found last year that we really enjoyed called Autumn Wreath and there was a half-price deal on a couple of new scents, one called Farmhouse Apple, which I also purchased.
With the overcast and rain, both were a big hit this weekend.

I don't care for the soy candles. I think they give off a different scent, & I don't like the way they burn. My candle lady(s) do the regular wax, they burn great (no black smoke), & they burn all the way down to the littlel round metal wick holder at the bottom. I pop the metal clip out, wipe out the jar & bring them back to her to refill! Actually, most of my friends & family get their candles from the same place I do, or they burn Yankee & none of them care for the soy candles either, so I guess it just depends on your preference. I have a carrot cake soy candle I bought over 5 years ago, it smells good in the jar, but I don't like how it smells burning or the way the wax burns. The other soy candles I have bought, got pitched, or I gave them to my boss' wife who does like soy. I've tried several differnt brands of soy candles & didn't like any of them, so I am done with them! That's just my opinion for what it's worth! Lol! :-?

I am at work in the office of a machine shop, burning a votive candle & it's smelling up the whole office (it's a rather large office) & it's overpowering the smell of the machines, oil, grease etc. I'm going to have to get more of this scent (like I need more candles! We make a candle during the holidays called "Gingerbread Man in a Can", yum!! A tip for you candle lovers; if you want to make your candle last longer & make the scent throw stronger you must purchase a "candle warmer". They sell them at Michaels Craft Store for about $5.00. Plus they're awesome for realtors or those with small children that don't want to have a lit cande at certain times. Happy sniffing everyone :D

Just a heads up...I wanted to get a candle warmer & our friends husband (who is a fireman) said "you don't want one of those!" When I asked why not, he said he has been to more than one house fire caused by....a candle warmer! He also added that people just plug them in & leave thinking it will be fine because there is no flame, but if they are left on for a long period of time, they get too hot & can start a fire. He didn't totally talk me out of getting one...I think you just have to be smart about when & how long to let them plugged in!

I have two of the Autumn leaves candles burning now. I stopped by Yankee Candle today and bought some Autumn Wreath candles that are on sale. That one has a nice spicy, almost cider-like smell!
There is also a MacIntosh and Pear candle that is HEAVENLY.
I grabbed some Pumpkin Spice candles, although they will be going on sale next month.
The best news is, my Yankee Candle store is already setting up tables with the Christmas scents!

Hello, I know exactly what you mean about candles. I love burning them any time of year, but especially during the Fall/Winter months. I don't have anywhere near 200 or anything, but I like to pick some up whenever I can.
My fave scents are peach, apple pie, apple and peach, lilac, home sweet home, wedding day, gingerbread, pumpkin pie, cinnamon, sugar cookie, christmas morning, etc.
I usually buy from Yankee, but if I find one that's close to it, I'll buy that as well. I wish I had a lady I could buy from on a regular basis, but there's no one around here like.

I need to go and get one of these, I have heard they really do smell like fall. Right now I am burning a Pumpkin Spice candle (or should I say warming, it's on one of those warmers yall spoke of) I picked up a few weeks ago at Dollar General for $1 and have been shocked at how good it smells. I thought for only a buck if it didnt smell then I would throw it out but it really smells like a pumpkin pie. I also picked up a Glade essential oils Pumpkin Pie candle at Wally World Sunday and it smells good too. They had another one called Glistening Snow that now I wish I had grabbed too.
But my all time fave is Yankee's Christmas Wreath. It smells more like a live Christmas tree than any of the others. And while its not a candle, I also really like Aromatique's Scent of Christmas. It compliments the Christmas Tree nicely.

My wife as well. I can't honestly tell how many candles we have. Mostly the jar candles from Yankee. We just pulled out the fall scents the other day (yeah, fall with 90 degree plus temps!), but the bulk of them are Christmas themed.

I haven't burnt an entire candle on it (I normally switch back and forth between a few), but I started a Home Interiors Pine candle that was half gone and it kept its scent right to the very end. They seem to burn alot slower on those warmers so to me they last longer and the scent seems to remain to the end. I am 'warming' a cheap Pumpkin Pie candle from the Dollar Store and have been for around 3 weeks now and it still has just as much scent as it did at first considering how cheap it was.

Holiday, Have you ever tried Partylite?
They are a In home Demo company and they have the most beautiful Christmas candle holders in fact my favorite is the collectible snow globe with a tea light at the top, they have a new one every year!
but they do have a whole bunch of holiday scents--My favorite is the WIntergreen, it smells just like when you go the pine tree farm to pick out a tree!! im pretty sure you can to the site and look at their stuff, Im not sure if the christmas stuff is there, but I know you can google christmas partylite stuff!
I always have a show around christmas--becuz then I get all my stuff for free lol...but anyway, the entire candle is scented right down the last flicker of light!! I love them!

I am so mad at me this morning!! I went to Ben Franklin this weekend & they are really getting out their Christmas items, including their Yankee Christmas candles! :) I bought Sparkling Cinnamon, Bayberry, Home For The Holidays, & their new Holiday Home Sweet Home all in votives. I was looking so forward to trying the Holiday Home Sweet Home at work today & guess what??? I forgot the darn candles!!! I left them at our lake home!!! ARGH!!! Has anyone tried the new Holiday Home Sweet Home? To me, I'm thinking it kind of smells like incense, but I want to burn it - sometimes they smell different burning! I'm not all that crazy about incense, so I'm hoping for a different smell - but I just had to try it! ;-)

See the candle warmer I bought tonight at my candle lady's Christmas open house??? I just couldn't pass it up. I was all checked out & ready to walk out the door & this jumped out & bit me!! I had to turn around & go back to the register! My candle lady was laughing & she took 5 bucks off of it!!
Do those things really work? I am having the hardest time right now with candles. I have some ordered, but the warming plates I have will not do 22oz candles. They do small ones just fine though.
Problem is we have cats and dogs. We can't have open, unatended flames. Unless somone knows of a device that will cover the flame and keep cats from putting their noses over it. Anyways, I have read the large jar burners are great for 22oz candles. Problem is I want it to melt the entire thing- not just the center (quarter size hole).
I saw that candle warmer on ebay, actually watching it now to see if I can get a good deal. They have 3 different designes. Sadly, there are no plain ones. They all have a country motiff which does NOT fit the decor. The only one that comes close/acceptable is the snowman one.
Thanks for any input! cheesy

You would think, however my cat Ash (Kitty) did this once and burned half her whiskers off. She continually goes near candles when lit as if there is no problem. I don't think they realize the factor of burning, heat/flame = bad.

Yep, they really do work, BUT I don't think the scent is as strong as actually burning the candle. Don't get me wrong, you can smell it, but it's not quite as strong. I think it would be perfect for your situation! A neighbor of ours bought a warmer for everybody (who doesn't already have one) who has pets b/c it made her so nervous to see people burning candles with pets in their house! Wasn't that sweet??? :)

Oh, gosh, holiday--that IS annoying! Maybe you should have candles for your lake house AND candles for your regular home.
Believe it or not, they sell really good candles at Bob Evans' restaurants. The brand name is Olde South. We bought one that is Blueberry Hot Cakes scented and it smells delicious! Seriously, it will give you a craving for blueberry pancakes when you smell it--it smells so good.

It's funny that you say that EstherSmith, b/c I was going to reccomend Bob Evans for a warmer & candles on another thread, but I thought maybe people would think I'm off my rocker! My Mom got her candle warmer & a candle to go with it at Bob Evans - I don't remember the scent, but it smelled really good!!
I do have candles for home & the lake!! Lol!! I'm telling you, I'm a candle fanatic!!! Lol!!
I burned the new Holiday Home Sweet Home today at work (I ran to the lake & got my candles yesterday) it smelled good, but it wasn't very strong. :( Maybe it's just b/c of my allergies & my sniffer isn't working quite right that I couldn't hardly smell it. The scent is good, but not necessarily Christmassy - you could burn it anytime of the year.

We sell Yankee Candles at the christmas store so I burn them at work and also when I come home. Usually I use my wax tart burner.
Today I burned Brown sugar & spice at work and I really loved it. I have tried it many times before but today I truly understood the smell.
Some of my favorites are:
Cinnamon Stick (most christmassy of them all),
Autumn leaves (smells like when my mom is preparing the christmas dinner, ptarmigan),
Autumn wreath (smells like the first cold nights of the autumn),
Chocolate chip cookie (mmmmmm chocolate),
Macintosh (mmmmmm apples).

I went to my candle lady's store last night...I was THRILLED to see that she has a new Christmas scent! It's called Sugared Spruce! I burned it last night & I love it!! I'm still partial to her Christmas Tree for the true Christmas Tree (pine) smell, but Sugared Spruce is definately a very Christmassy scent!! It's pine with a twist - I haven't figured out what the twist is yet, but it's good!!! She had just poured another new Christmas scent she is going to try this year (I can't remember what it's called - but it's a knock off of a Yankee scent) & she asked my opinion on it - to me it was a really soft scent, but she said it's actually perfumy - there are so many other candle scents in her store, I guess I would just have to buy it & burn it to see if I like it. And she had another new pine w/ a twist scent, but I liked the Sugared Spruce better. Hopefully she will have them all for Christmas.
Her new fall scent is Apple Pumpkin. I bought one & I really like it. It is more of a fresh apple or Machintosh scent than it is pumpkin. I could have bought one of everything! I picked up votives in Cinnamon Toasted Almonds, Gingerbread, Cherry Clove Chutney, Pumpkin Spice, Vanilla Pumpkin, Orange Sherbert, Blueberry Cobbler, Cinnamon Bun, Caramel Coffee Creme, Cappuccino Brulee, Creme Brulee, Hot Apple Pie, & Chicken Farts (funny name, hey??? She said it's grapefruit, banana, coconut - the original name was Monkey Farts, but she changed it to chicken b/c of the poulty farming area we live in) She has one called Fresh Mown Grass & mercy does it ever smell like fresh mown grass!!!! And another new one is Fresh Baked Bread - I'm going to have to give this one a try too!!
Alright - I've rambled enough!! Lol!!

Anybody remember that Glade christmas candle that was three tiered... it was red and green and white. I think they stopped selling it a few years ago. I used to always enjoy picking one up during the season.
We use Yankee Candles, but our favorites are candles that my wife picks up in a little shop. The candle line is called 'Our Own Candle Company'... they are not as expensive as the Yankee candles but are really aromatic. The shop is about 2 hours away so my wife usually makes the trip right around Christmas time and she usually picks up the 'Carmel Pecan' and 'Snickerdoodle' candles. You can buy them off the internet if you do a google search on them.
Actually, I just looked at their site and it looks like they sell a 'Christmas Triple' that looks just like the Glade candle I mentioned above except that it comes in a mason jar.

You have the same taste in candles as i do. I don't care for the fruity scents at all. ShopRite where we do our grocery shopping has a sale on candles once in a while, 3/10.00. They really good candles and have a strong scent. When i was on vacation a cxouple weeks ago, I went to the outlets and Yankee Candle had a good deal on their large candles, only $15.00. Thats a great deal, since they're usually almost $25.00. bought a few to give as gift this Christmas.

There is a card shop around here that always does a featured scent from Yankee and any size jar candle, tart, votive, etc. that you buy of that scent is discounted. So, they usually have a good deal. I have so many stockpiled that I have to start putting them in a rotation so that I don't forget about them! Who makes scented candles that make the scent while you burn them?
I looked at the Yankee Candle website and sorry to say it ,but $24.00 for a 22oz candle is just too much.
I have a 22 ounce candle that came from WalMart. It's Pumpkin Pie ,but you can't smell it while it burns ,nor after you blow it out. Just when you sniff the candle itself. I think I bought it at a yard sale or flea market and it was new.Never burned.

I have Yankee Candle's Autumn Leaves in plug-ins around the house, and I'm burning Pumpkin Spice and the new Be Thankful candles.

I found Yankee's Autumn Leaves oil (the kind you put in a burner with a tea light underneath) for $2.99 at Marshall's! They have a ton of Yankee!!

have a question for all you candle lovers...
Whenever I light a candle, even just a small tea light the screen of my TV is covered in soot !!!! When I wipe it with a cloth it looks BLACK. It's not just the TV but it's most obvious there. And the candle is not even close to the TV !! My living room is pretty small but even in my previous apartment where I'd burn a lot of candles I'd have the same problem.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO PREVENT THIS ???? Or do you just not care ??

I LOVE Glistening Snow by Glade...I live in NJ and they do have them on the shelves at Kmart and Walmart. But Kmart has a Glade holiday display setup with all the holiday scents from candles, to air freshners, plug-ins and all. Glistening Snow is one of my favoritie holiday scents.

:cry:I burn candles in my kitchen on the stove. I don't know if this will help, but do you have a candle shade on your candles? I always use a shade when I burn the large candles, and i never have a problem with soot.

I have found this to happen when I burn cheap candles - like from Walmart, etc! If I burn Yankee candles or the candles from my candle lady this doesn't happen. Also, keep the wick trimmed. When I light a candle for the 1st time, I light it - let it burn a few minutes, blow it out, let it cool & trim the wick & light it again. I trim the wick b/f I light the candle every time! And if it's been burning for a long time & the wick is getting long I blow it out, trim the wick & re-light it. Hope that helps!
