I was wondering if anyone here has ever witnessed any great sporting moments in person, TV doesn't count.
For instance, I got to witness a no hitter. It was on April 4, 2001 at Camden Yards in Baltimore. Hideo Nomo of the Boston Red Sox was the pitcher. Even though it was the visiting team pitcher that did it, it was very cool to see. By the time it was obvious what was happening, the Baltimore crowd was cheering for him to complete it. And when he did, we all gave him a standing ovation, and he came out of the dugout and took a bow. The funny part for me was that my friend that was with me wasn't that into baseball. He asked me why we were cheering for the other team. So I had to explain to him what just happened. Also that was the first and, and to this day, the only no hitter thrown at Camden Yards. Nomo did walk 3, that's the only thing that kept it from being a perfect game.

I wasn't at the game but when the colts won the super bowl I went downtown the next day to see them return to the RCA dome and the parade through downtown in the freezing weather.

I was in attendance at Brett Favre's final regular season home game as a Packer at Lambeau Field. Originally, it was his final regular season home game until he decided to pull his shennigans... But, what can you do. It was a great experience nonetheless.
Otherwise, I was in attendance for the entire World Junior Hockey Championship last year here in Ottawa. The tournament is practically a religious event for Canadian hockey fans. My dad, whose life revolves around my brother, myself and sports, said that the tournament was the highlight of his sporting life. I was happy that I could share such a grand two week period with him. It was fantastic! It was the perfect ending to a Holiday Season as Canada defeated Sweden to win the Gold Medal.
I'm not totally sure if I have been in attendance for any other major sporting achievements. I still have plenty more opporutnitie!

I know you said "not on TV" and I almost NEVER watch sports on TV... but for some odd reason, I just happened to be watching a portion of the Steelers game where Franco Harris made the Immaculate Reception... I was 15 or so... it's one of the most replayed scenes in sports history and started the Steelers 1970's dynasty... and I saw it live...

Well I don't see why we can't post stuff we saw on TV.
I remember watching the USA hockey team win the gold in the 1980 winter Olympics.

The greatest thing I ever saw in sports was the 2004 Red Sox World Championship I wasn't there but watched almost all of it on TV
after the final out was made, I cried. I was 29 at the time but all I could think of were my Grandparents in their 80's getting to see their first Sox championship.
My sister called me after midnight to bask in that moment. Cars were all honking their horns driving up and down the road. My family is nearly 5 generations of Red Sox fans so that was the sweetest moment in sports for me.

The Canada / Russia final game on September 28, 1972...
Very few Canadians who were alive on September 28, 1972 did not watch the game on TV or listen on radio as game eight was carried live in the mid-afternoon. Absenteeism was high at work places across the country and schools suspended classes to allow students to watch the game, many of them assembled in auditoriums or gymnasiums. The game started badly for Team Canada, with referee Josef Kompalla issuing fringe penalties that allowed the Soviets to score a pair of first-period power-play goals and build up a 5-3 lead through two. Goals by Phil Esposito and Yvan Cournoyer allowed Team Canada to tie the game midway through the third. In the dying moments, Paul Henderson corralled the rebound from a Phil Esposito shot, but his own shot was stopped by Tretiak. With 34 seconds left, Henderson slipped his own rebound past the Soviet netminder. Team Canada had a thrilling 6-5 victory. An entire nation rejoiced!

I saw Leeds Rugby Union win the national knock out competition in 2005 against Bath who were very strongly favoured but we out played them and won. T
Think Steelers getting beat 21-6 by the Jags and being totally out played and with the Jags last score coming from an 80yard interception return for a TD.
