I don't know if there is a craft section here or not. I like to make alot of my things myself and get my girls involved. I have about 100, 2 1/2 inch cinnamon sticks that I have leftover from making tea. I hate to throw them away. besides glueing them together to make little "logpiles" to hang on the tree, does anyone have any other ideas? Hate to throw them out. thanks much, Lori

Cinnamon Stick Candle Holder
You will need:
1 clear glass votive candle holder
about 20 cinnamon sticks
transparent tape
scissors
hot glue gun, glue sticks

Measure the height of your holder, and add 1/2 inch. This is the length you will need to cut your cinnamon sticks. Cover the holder completely with tape. Hot glue does not adhere well to glass, so this will give you a good surface to glue to. Glue each stick vertically to the holder, making sure they are placed evenly, until the entire surface is covered. Use like this, or decorate with raffia, or other small holiday decorations.

I want the recipe for the tea. I was at the Dollar store the other day and in the seasoning section they had cinnamon sticks and it made me remember a woman back in Maryland who used to make tea from cinnamon sticks. I almost bought them but wasn't sure how the tea was made. Do you just steep the cinnamon sticks in hot water and then add sugar?

The cinnamon sticks are hollow, right? You could drink your tea through them and avoid waiting all that time for steeping. By the way, over the years I have found that six minutes is my optimum steeping time. I used to think anything more than three would make the tea too strong, but au contraire! (That's french for "It won't make the tea too strong.)

six minutes is a long time and many of us can't wait that long, anything we can do to speed up the steeping?

For me it depends on the tea. Some tea steeps faster or becomes stronger quicker My favorite is almond sunset made by celestial seasoning.

Yes, clip the string off the bag and throw it away. Then put the bag between your cheek and gum. Instant tea flavor and no steeping. You can stick a packet or two of sugar/Splenda in the other cheek if necessary.

The cinnamon tea is real easy. I use an old 2 qt pot and put in 2 sticks and fill with water and let it simmer for a couple of hours till it turns a really dark red. You can add more water if too much evaporates. It is extremely healthy and good for anemia (like me). I use honey to sweeten it. Use an older pot that you don't mind getting stained cause after a while it will be brown. I learned this from Mexican people when I was very young.

It only takes two sticks. Wow well I'll have to try it.

Ok you could turn up the stove and cook it faster. My usual morning routine is take the kids to school, come back home and start the tea on low. I'm still drinking coffee in the morning and the tea will be ready by noon. Then I just turn it off and put a lid on it and each time I want another cup of tea, I just reheat. The pot will stay on the stove all day.

A big bonus for the ladies~maybe the guys too

It will eliminate all cravings for chocolate.

I don't eat chocolate but that's good to know.

1. You leave the tea on all morning and it is ready by noon? That's the steepest steeping I have ever heard of.
2. If tea gets rid of chocolate cravings, you'd better let the Scots know. When I lived there they always, and I mean always, offered chocolate biscuits with their tea.
3. HN7, you don't eat chocolate? Allergic? Attacked by a kid in an M&M suit when you were young?

I start the tea about 9 am on the lowest flame possible. It takes time to heat up all that water and the cinnamon sticks will eventually cook. I think it is the nutrient manganese? that a person craves and find it in chocolate. Cinnamon is high in that so it kills the cravings for the chocolate.
The french are really big with chocolate. But they are not fans of cinnamon I have found.
I also make a good stinging nettle tea sort of the same way. :)

So when I make a cinnamon/Hershey bar/cinnamon/Nestles Crunch club sandwich, that's overkill?

Steeped cinnamon tea is also very good if you have stomach cramps. Helps to alleviate some of them. :)
