Does anyone have any special plans this month? I would like to go pumpkin picking and also get some fresh apples to make a pie. Other than that, there's a harvest festival in my in-laws neighborhood that I might go to, but since Dan's not home this week, I don't think I will.

Well I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the October weather.

If it wasn't supposed to be 90º tomorrow, I'd go pumpkin picking with you, but I'll be inside under the air.

I didn't know what a boxelder bug was until I googled your last post, Ervserver. I thought you were just talking nonsense, but see now that your plan for the month is to swat bugs. Don't let me interrupt! 8)

October means that Stayman apples will soon be in!! Those are the best eating apple around.

Halloween decorations and treat bags went out to my soldiers this weekend and I got the shoe boxes for Operation Chirstmas Child wrapped.

My major focus is on getting my Christmas display ready to go. Only two months until the switch is thrown and I take control of the North Anna nuclear power plant! .....surely Santa will see my house this year!

Martha K. You need to take pictures and post them. It's 90 degrees here as well doesn't feel any different then the last couple of months. It is getting darker earlier though and well be turning the clocks back at the end of the month.

Well my son is turning 2 on the 18th so we're having his party on the 14th. Then we're going to Boo at the Zoo for Halloween. We're already done Christmas shopping so I'm just waiting to figure out the appropriate time to start Christmas decorating...my hubby says not untill after Thanksgiving.

I can't believe you can already be done shopping for Christmas. I do everything pretty late. I work on Saturdays not because I love overtime but because I'm actually just showing up for Friday a day late!

I have to agree...I cannot believe after having such a cool September we are revisiting summer again. Our weather dude is promising a break in the heat by Thursday and I am gonna hold him to it!!

As for plans, well if the weather does cool this weekend I am gonna have a garage sale Friday and Saturday. I've gotten out most of my Halloween decorations and put out some mums but I need to pick up some haybales. Guess the biggest event will be the annual Halloween party a good friend of ours throws every year. I have not decided whether we will dress up or not, my sweetie is leaning to the "or not" side!

Listening to the radio just now at work...a country station and they just played "I Love a Rainy Night". The DJ was saying even though our area hasn't seen rain in a while he really would like to see some snow instead (esp since it is 93 outside with a heat index of 95!) and then said "oh what the heck, what could it hurt?" and then played "Let it Snow"!!!!

Nice avatar! (I used that line on my wife, but she's had no idea what I was saying.) It's about 86º now, but it feels pretty comfortable.

Christy Carol

That movie, hands down is my favorite all time movie. That line now has family meaning to my crew...oh goodness, I guess it was Christmas Eve '99 when my (at the time) 9 year old nephew was watching it with me and later used that line at my parents house. I thought my sister, his mom was gonna kill me!

Are you guys expecting the cool down too? They are calling for 78 here Friday with a low of 53 so that is more like it.

72º Friday, sister! Whoohoo! And a nighttime low of 53º. Don't want to rush winter or I'll forget to enjoy the fall.

Agreed! I want some cool days and cooler nights so we will have a gorgeous array of color this year and not just brown dead leaves like last year. We are talking about driving up to Northern Arkie (where the mountains are) later in the fall to look at all the colors. But I can't wait til we have to start raking! I am a big kid at heart and I love to get a huge pile of leaves and then jump right into the center of them!!

My Arkansas experience is limited to a couple canoe trips down the Spring River or the Buffalo River, can't remember what it was called. Ended up getting stitches in my leg, but it was a good time anyhow.

I can't believe you can already be done shopping for Christmas.

I always get all of the shopping done by the second week of October then I wrap everything and seperate all of the small things into bags for stockings. Getting everything done this early makes it so much nicer once the "Holiday rush" starts. All I have to do during that time is my baking and decorating.

Do you early shoppers still go out and window shop or would that just lead to impulse buying, something I know nothing about. Uh oh, my nose...

mrshamm
10-03-2006, 05:45 PM
I go out and window shop closer to Christmas because I always find an extra little something to give my husband or Children or something that I can hint to my husband that I would like. My husband is more of a day before shopper...lol.

We have both, Buffalo and Spring. One is further north than the other.

Too cool! That is one of our favorite summertime activites!! But actually we go to Alton, Mo and float the 11 Point. We went twice this past summer and had a blast.

Stitches?? Geez, that doesn't sound like much fun to me!!

I used to do all my shopping really early (sometimes done by July) and then I'd go shopping for me and me during the Christmas sales. I no longer do that because I don't have the patience for the crazy people in the stores.

Ervserver
10-15-2006, 07:26 PM
A mall here has a Christmas in July thing, Santa comes n all and the stores are supposed to have big sales. It's usually all summer stuff and I don't often give clothing for a gift. Except to myself

Yeah, clothing as a gift is a recipe for a quick return. The last gift I gave the wife that was not returned was the wedding ring.

I have yet to return a gift. Guess I have been lucky that BF knows what I want. Christmas came early yesterday, I got a new deep freezer and microwave. And yes, I actually wanted this things!!

dvdelf
10-18-2006, 06:45 PM
which glades are we referring to?

dominick
10-18-2006, 07:28 PM
The new ones that come in a sort of glass jar. They are said to be made with "essential oils". I don't know if the scent is that much better if at all, but they do burn slower. I just quickly checked Glade's website and it kind of looks like they're the only ones they're making any more. They have a whole section on their site for "holiday" (:x) products, though.

dvdelf
10-18-2006, 07:30 PM
