so here is the whole sordid tale.....

monday, sept 18, around 8 pm, i was standing outside my frontdoor of my 3rd floor apt. i had my cat, pumpkin, in my arms and me were enjoying the cool fall breeze that was blowing the leaves around. all of a sudden, i hear that low nasty cat-fighting growl, only it isnt coming from my cat. it was coming from the cat who lives in the next building over. i had only just met him (and owner) on saturday. i had seen the cat coming out of his apt and then saw it about to fight another cat, so i had knocked on the owner's door to let her know about the impending fight. she came and got her cat and we chatted for a moment. during this chat, she informs me that it was a good thing i didnt try to break up the fight myself as "kitty" would probably hurt me. so here i am on monday night, digging the fall breeze, when pumpkin and i are attacked. for what seemed like forever, but was probably only a minute max. i had both cats in my arms as "kitty" had leapt onto pumpkin. pumpkin was trying to climb over my head and i was trying to knock kitty off me. (the evil cat's name really is kitty. terribly exotic, doncha think?) kitty clamped down on my wrist. if you bit your hand blow the fleshy part of your thumb, with your hand parallel to the ground, youd get the picture. i got 4 puncture wounds. 2 on top. 2 on the bottom. finally got the cat off me (while still hanging on to pumpkin) and kicked it down the stairs, but not before he took a chunk out of my leg just above my achilles. i would like to say, at this time, that the fact that i kicked that cat still bothers me. anyway, i got me and punkers inside and ran to the bathroom thinking that the leg booboo was the really bad one. i poured hydrogen peroxide on my leg and wrist after cleaning with soap and water. then put a butterfly bandage on the leg thing and proceded to have a total meltdown. couldnt get hold of bf as it was monday night football and he had his cell off. called a friend who was a nurse and she said i did good and if it was bad in the morning, to go to minor emergency. finally calmed down only to discover i didnt have any cigarettes, which i really really really wanted and went to next door's house to bum one and a tylenol. she gave me 3 cigs and 3 tylenol pms which i smoked and swallowed and went to bed. 4 am i woke up with wrist throbbing and swollen. sat here and cried til about 9 am when i finally got hold of jeff and he left work and took me to emergency room. i was there for about an hour. they cleaned all my wounds with saline and xrayed my wrist and shot me full of a couple of diff antibiotics. the er doc was writing out a scrip for pain pills when a passing orthopedic surgeon happend upon the scene and had a looksee at my xray. he then declared that iw asnt going anywhere but upstairs to surgery. he said that the cat's fang had pierced the sheath on my tendon. so i went out to the waiting room, bummed a cig from jeff, told him to go back to work, called my mother, smoked the cigarette and went to surgery!
they debrided 8 inches of tendon. i dont really know exactly what that means and i do not want to know! i was in the hospital for 4 days. when i woke up after surgery, my sister was here (drove up from san antonio after my mother called her. sister stayed til day i left then mother came up and took me home and stayed til this past saturday. i had received a clean bill of health from the surgeon; all wounds healing and all signs of infection completely gone. he also removed the half-cast i was wearing. the wounds dont hurt much anymore, just the occasional twinge. the tendon is very very sore. and stiff. wrist movement is minimal. typing is a pain cuz i rest my wrist on the bottom wounds. the tendon isnt affected much my typing as i dont move my hands that much!!

anyway, that is the whole story. thanx for all the pms and emails of concern and good wishes!

xoxoxox

ps. hellkitty was taken to quarantine by animal control (the hospital called them) and returned to its owner yesterday with a clean bill of health. so i dont have rabies!! :D

Oh Elfworks, I am so sorry to hear that. I suffered similar injuries from a cat attack, so my wrist and thumb were aching as I read your post.
I'm glad the hospital did the dirty work of calling about the attack cat. Hopefully, the management at your apartment will keep a close eye on that cat and require it remain indoors where it can't attack other cats and people. Man, that is one S.A.C.!

C'mon, dvdguy or ervserver, I dare you to say, "Wah!" We had a barbaric little tradition when I was growing up. Any animal that attacked a human was disposed of. How is the neighbor reacting? "I told you not to break up a cat fight!" I usually just make ridiculous noises and they run off, but then again, my cat has not been involved (since I don't have one), so I might react differently if it was. I looked up debride and it means that your tendon's spouse was killed during surgery. OK, it means, "the usually surgical removal of lacerated, devitalized, or contaminated tissue."

Wow, what a horrible experience. I'm glad you are feeling better and are rabies free. Don't feel bad about kicking the mean kitty. You were protecting your kitties and yourself.

Someday I'll tell you the story about my guinea pig, Marvin, and how he bit me in an "uncomfortable place". Funny, yet painful story.

Feel better and don't type too much. Let it heal.

I can watch it with the sound turned down. Just as good. Plot is even more substantial, too.

I would be sending all my medical bills over to that neighbor. If the cat is that aggressive then I would ask that it be removed, permanently. And no, I am not a cat hater, I have two little tiger kitties of my own, Rosco and Cleatus. But if they ever attacked anyone I would dispose of them.

But I am glad you are feeling better. Was pumpkin ok? Sounds like you took a beating to protect her, she is one lucky kittie!!

Next time Pumpkin is in a fight she'll say, "Wait right here, buddy. I've got a surprise for you!" Then you can go out and get your butt kicked again. Being artistic and inventive, maybe you could design a line of catfight clothing. Armored knee-high socks, kitty mace, etc.

Elfworks,
Look on the bright side, if David Hasselhof were your father, he would have called 911 and told them you had attemtped suicide...

do you have to have physical therapy? I had surgery on a wrist and the worst part of the whole thing was the physical therapy.

I had a cut on my finger that required stitches and had nerve damage for about a year, which sounds like I am trying to depress you but actually is meant to encourage you that even if it takes a long time, it will repair itself.

I actually enjoyed the physical therapy I had after my spinal surgery. The surgery was in March and I still have some issues, but I'm at about 90% flexibility on my neck.
