:snowball:I love so many of my ornaments, it's hard to choose just one. I do collect carousel horses, and have some carousel ornaments, so those are special too me. The ones that ar really special though, are the First Christmas ornaments members of my family gave us the first christmas we were married.

We collect acrylic & crystal ornaments & Hallmark ornaments. My favorite is the first set I bought when I was in high school. They are acrylic rocking horses with a little bit of gold on the saddles.

I am like others, I have so many that are special, it is hard to pick just one. One that is really special is one that my parents brought from Holland with them in 1954 to start their new life here in Canada. It is so fragile now I keep it in a box for display as hanging it on a tree is no longer safe.

My favorite ornament is one I got from my fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Konkle. It's a snap-together ornament with an elf inside. I love pulling that one out and putting it on the tree. It's the fourth one that goes on. First is an ornament of a bride and groom, then each of my kids' 1st Christmas ornament. Mrs. Konkle was a lot like my grandma. They were also around the same age. She has since passed away but I have fond memories of her. That ornament is 40 years old. Wow!

It's hard to choose. I probably change favorites from time to time depending on my mood, etc. But one of my favorites is a glass bell with a tiny cardinal inside for the clapper. It as a gift from one of my grandchildren years ago.

Most of my favorites have memories attached. There are the ornaments the kids have made--and those are always wonderful. And then my wife and I have collected some on trips over the years. We have a wood cutting from Wisconsin, and an adobe globe from New Mexico, where the light shines through the windows.

Each Christmas, look for a chance to make an ornament you can associate with a place or activity. It's a great way to create milestones and memories.

That's a tough one. I don't think I can choose, honestly. I love the ones that my DH and I have picked up on vacations (we always get an ornament as a souvenier) and the grouping of bells that has my name, his name and "our first Christmas" together. Nope. can't do it. too hard.

Mine is my tree topper...It is a cloth angel and my mom made it when I was little. It was on the top of every tree while I lived at home. Then the first Christmas in my own home my mom passed it down to me. I plan to give it to one of my kids someday too. I love family heirlooms.

Mine is a simple, blue, ball ornament that has a hand-painted snow scene on it. A lady I work with made (painted) it and gave it to me on the first Christmas after adopting my first son. It's not particularly artistic with a smiling snowman, snow falling, and my son's name on it.
He was born on Oct. 12, 1997 with a normally fatal heart defect. After being told when he was 2 days old that there was nothing that could be done and to try to cherish the next few (his last few) days with him, we found a surgeon that could help him with a series of 3 staged open heart surgeries over 2 years. He had his first one at 8 days old and we were just coming out of the woods from that and feeling that maybe he would make it when Christmas rolled around. So I guess because of timing and it's personal touch along with it's childlike, happy snow scene, I associate that ornament with a feeling of relief and hope which I hadn't felt for a few months at that time in life.
He's now 12 and healthy (but he still only has half of a heart) and you wouldn't know he had any issues except for the massive scars he carries on his torso.

Sorry for the long post...

That's a wonderful story! And thanks for sharing it! I'm glad you were able to find help for you son. There's no limits to what a parent will do for a child.

My favorite ornaments are the blue ball-ornaments, too. I have a favorite one that was painted with a snow scene, too. It's a cabin in the mountains near a creek. I got it in Maggie Valley, NC at an outdoor festival while I was with my family, and I LOVE it!

My favorite ornament is one I made. I used a spoon from the set of silverwear given to my great grandparents for a wedding gift in 1901. I bent the spoon around a medicine bottle to get a rounded shape and then added a beautiful ear ring for glitz that belonged to my grandmother. That is the highlight of my tree. Sort of makes me think that my grandparents are right there throughout the whole Christmas Season ....I made one of these oprnaments for my mother, and both of my sisters. This year my daughters will be recieving one for there tree too.

This isn't a great picture, but it is my absolute favorite ornament. It has been in my family since before I was born, I'm about to be 48 to give you an idea. Last year it got broken while in storage, and I thought is was gone forever. Then I came home from work one day and my sweety was able to super glue it together. I actually started to cry a little when I saw what she had done. You can see where a small piece is missing on the top right of it, but that doesn't matter to me. I am so thankful to her for taking the time to do that for me. Now we keep it stored by itself on a little stand, that's what it is on in this picture.

My dad helped me with it. He builds models and I knew he had some expertise in putting together small things. We spent 2 days trying to get it together. These were tiny fragile shattered pieces of glass we were working with. I even looked into ornament restoration online and the cost to do so were insane! I could not stand the thought of throwing away a sentimental piece. We got it together the best we could.

I have a Christmas ornament I made when I was in 5th grade one year. It wasn't like any of the other ornaments I made as a kid. It wasn't made from popcorn, popsicle sticks or macaroni, I stictched it with yarn and sewed on sequins. It's white and silver and my mom still has it. No matter what theme or color scheme she does the tree in, I always put it on her tree. Last year, when my husband and I spent our first Christmas together in our house, she gave me my ornament to put on my own tree. It was really special!!

I have so many faves for different reasons it's hard to choose just one. I have some favorite victorian ones you can no longer find that I got when I first got married 20 years ago.

I have a secret confession, I've never told anyone else. I know this is terrible but I really am not fond of putting the kids home made ornaments on the tree. I love getting them or helping them make them, but when it comes to the tree, I'd rather leave them off. (bows my head in shame). I'm a bad mommy, I know!

Like so many who've posted, I too have too many to choose from. The ones from my children hold a special place in my heart, as well as the beautiful ornaments that my husband (Grinch) bought for me at Dinsey when we went there last year. Then I have all the wonderful ones passed down to me from my parents who got them from their parents. Such wonderful memories all of them.:tree:
