Retailers rub their hands together in glee at the rosy economic forecast for Christmas 2006 but their hiring plans betray them. Major retailers are not planning for much more help than last Christmas. All this is the byproduct of a rocky selling year in stores.

Not here. I've got a neighbor who works as a recruiter for construction labor. He's got more than 400 openings paying $14 an hour and he can't fill them.

I'm VERY concerned about the 200 people I have to hire in the next month.
