View Full Version : CHRISTMAS COUNT DOWN 2-0-0-6!

I got the idea from the xmasplace.com This will be the place we can discuss the holiday season. Here is what the xmasplace.com is doing.

"A word of explanation. We are running a dual countdown in this thread - one for Christmas Day and one for the start of the Christmas Season (November 13). Most of us have agreed that we look forward to the Christmas season rather than just to Christmas Day. Why November 13? No reason, really. It just seems about the right time to regard the season as arriving. It is exactly 6 weeks before Christmas Day and is about the time the country at large is beginning to get into the holiday spirit. Most of the stores have decorated. And starting the season then gives us exactly 50 days (Nov 13 through Jan 1) to enjoy being "within" the season.

We also enjoy posting "milestone threads" at special points along the countdown, such as at the 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 marks. At 90% complete, we launch the "home stretch" thread as we coast into the final days before the season begins.
Well, climb aboard, enjoy (and feel free to contribute to) the count, which begins today at 316 (to the Season) and 358 (to Christmas Day).

Here is a convenient list of our season countdown milestone markers. I decided to place it here, instead of in a separate thread as it was last year, so it will always be handy for checking how close we are to the next milestone. (For the equivalent figure to Christmas Day itself, just add 42 days to any date below)

January 17 = Day 300
January 18 = Day 299
February 12 = 1/4 mark
March 15 = 1/3 mark
April 27 = Day 200
April 28 = Day 199
May 15 = 1/2 mark
July 14 = 2/3 mark
August 05 = Day 100
August 06 = Day 99
August 14 = 3/4 mark
October 07 = 90% (The Home Stretch begins)
November 13 = THE SEASON ARRIVES! "

Now that you know the idea lets start counting down :-D :???:

I'm going to start counting down to my graduation too! December 8, 2006 at 1:00pm!!!! The day I walk across that stage and get my B.S. will be the start of Christmas!! I will be so stressed and swamped with school work until then, I'm afraid I won't be able to enjoy anything before then (and my sister is getting married the Saturday after Thanksgiving which will be busy/stressful within itself). But once December 8th hits, it's ON like POPCORN!

I bought a Christmas Tree
I bought a Christmas Tree
I can't wait to see it up
I bought a Christmas Tree

I bought them at the store
I bought a Christmas Tree

And soon we'll deck the halls.

This weekend Sears and the other dpt type stores will prob start setting all their Xmas decorations up too! I'll have to take note at the mall I work in and see if they've started anything yet.

Christmas around here will start Novemeber 1. I think the stores stay open late on Halloween so they can have every thing Halloween down so that when you walk in the am of Nov 1 you are bombarded with Christmas. The TV will be covered in Christmas ads and commercials too. Not that I am complaining!!!

Picked up some Xmas lights today, box of outdoor 200 and outdoor 100. Multicolored that I have on a tree outside and mix them in with the LED lights, looks good with the softness of the LED and the brightness of the standard.

Not sure if I've seen LED lights yet?

dominick
10-24-2006, 06:57 PM
You can buy them almost everywhere now. They string off of the main wire and every set I've seen were multiple setting chaser sets. If you're not looking at the light boxes, they'd be easy to pass over without noticing, and I'm not sure they're marketed as LEDs. I don't think any of my sets came out and said they were LEDs, but they're unmistakable as such.

Misfit Toy
10-24-2006, 08:11 PM
They had more LEDs than standard lights, but I was able to find some. They were just starting to get their Xmas isles together and there was a ton of stuff getting me excited that I wanted to get and my wallet crying out lol. Saw some nice new stuff at Wal-Mart too, as well as Home Depot.

I already had enough LED for the tree, so I just needed some standards. There was no sale, but the price was decent. Got them at Canadian Tire, I love their holiday stuff and they get a ton. I'm gonna have to put in extra hours at work if the few things I saw today were any indication lol, and this is just a preview. This Xmas thing, it just pulls ya right in

These are LEDs....

Yes, white lights and clear lights are the same. I was at Wal-Mart. They said that the white lights didn't come in with the rest of the Christmas stuff...just the white outdoor lights. So, they reordered the indoor ones and they'll be in the week of Thanksgiving.

yea, unfortunately that's all it is for a lot of people/businesses.

My sister gets married two days after Thanksgiving, but her fiance is saying that he wants to put their tree up the Wednesday before Thanksgiving!!!! this is VERY new for us because we usually don't get our tree until a week before Christmas! Now my mom is talking about putting her tree up early too! AWESOME FOR ME!

I want one of these for our bedroom so that I can watch all my Christmas shows that I tape this year plus the DVD's I have without disturbing BF. We have a DVD in the bedroom now but I really need VHS too.

It is so strange that I have the blahs. I have never had the blahs at Christmastime before. After Christmas, I usually get them, but not before. I put up more decorations, bought and wrapped more presents, watched Christmas shows everynight, and listened to more Christmas music. It has helped a lot. I am going to bake some cookies with the kids, and let them decorate them. I think that will help too.

What worked for me was to completely shut out Christmas for a few hours, maybe even a whole day. I'm still not back to where I was in early November, but I'm thoroughly enjoying the Christmas music right now and doing a bit of additional decorating. The snow we've been getting doesn't hurt, either.

I think I'm gonna be ok, the spirit is returning. My family got some very good news today concerning my grandfather. He seems to be coming back around and the docs are saying with some physical therapy he could be back (or as close to) normal within 10 days. It does mean spending 10 days in a rehab facility but he will be home by Christmas. It seems the meds he was on was actually causing all the problems he was having.

I went to see him at the hospital, had a great visit and I am feeling so much better tonite. "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" comes on tonite and I am thinking I will enjoy when I sit down to watch it tonite. :-D
