View Full Version : not quite crisp fall morning

elfworks
10-08-2006, 11:48 AM
it will get hot before day is done, but this morning it was nice and cool, while not exactly crisp. i was sitting here sipping some tea and having a scone when i suddenly was overcome with fall-itis and made some pumpkin bread. it is all i can do to keep myself from lighting a fire and cranking the ac!! luckily, the pumpkin bread baking requires only strenght in one hand!! anyway, wish yall were all here to share and enjoy.

anyone out there having a groovy fall sunday?

It was about 50º this morning when we got up, headed for 78º. After church we ate at Red Lobster, who does not sell frozen cappucinos anymore :( so I had an IBC Rootbeer. Now we're watching Tennessee do an admirable job at Indy (so far!). Naptime will come shortly.

drive would be short but cooking up a dozen of each kind of cookies would take longer.

well, i didnt say i was coming to your house, just iowa in general. i am sure the general populace would not demand cookies before i crossed the border.

however, i only know one other iowan (is that what yall call yourselves) and he was pretty demanding so... who knows.

My folks are calling for snow showers by friday. Well, they aren't calling for it, but the weatherman is. They're outside using up all the aerosol cans to speed up global warming. (Yes, I know that's a Drew Carey joke, but I liked it.)

It has been in the high 60s-low 70s in the morning here but it heats up fast. Right now it is 80. I am enjoying the cooler mornings. I go outside on the patio and watch the birds on the feeder and feed the squirrels peanuts.

We're getting back to "normal" October weather. 56° and cloudy today, and looks like we'll be in the 60s this week. It's been real chilly the last few days. Erv's probably getting that front this week over in Iowa.

I installed some awnings over my windows this past summer, now even in a hard rain I can leave the windows open, love the smell and the rain is relaxing.

It was a good idea gone wrong, terribly wrong. The wind picked up sometime during the night which is turn started knocking all the acorns off the trees, hitting our carport and back porch roofs, in turn making a noise similar to a rifle going off. After a few minutes of this the dog was crying, I was wide awake and the BF was going around closing windows.

We stayed at our lake home this weekend. I got up yesterday & ran to the gas station for a cup of coffee. When I got back, the neighbors were outside & they had a fire going in their fire ring. I walked over (it was about 10:30 AM) & they were burning some old papers. We got talking, & a couple more neighbors walked over, a couple more, they threw some logs on the fire, got out some chairs...the next thing I new, it was 4:30 in the afternoon!!! We sat around that fire ALL darn day!! It was so nice...crisp air, warm fire & good company!! We toasted marshmallows & had a few beers...what a great day!! The only thing better would have been if we had some hot toddy's...next time we'll be better prepared!!

Christy Carol
10-16-2006, 10:26 AM
that is kinda what we did all weekend except we did it in the afternoon/evening. We had marshmallows, hot dogs, chili and beer. What is it about fall weather that just draws people to sitting around a fire? To me there just isn't a better way to spend a day (or night).

Wow! I wish that was here. I love when they start talking about snow here (well, normally they talk about ice but anyway)

Last January I was in a little town called Caldwell, TX at a friend's ranch buttoning up loose ends on an engine swap. Of course, that had to be the coldest week I had experienced the whole time I was in Texas. On top of a large hill with nothing to break the wind, I tell you as a born and raised Chicagoan that I was freezing my arse off. It was definitely in the 30s... I'd have to say wind chills in the 20s. All while my fat, numb fingers are trying to wire the new equipment.
