View Full Version : **Celebrity Dead Pool 2010**

Jeff Westover

Inspired by this thread (http://www.mymerrychristmas.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15072), I am going to go out on a limb here and propose something I've long done in private: let's hold a celebrity dead pool.

Now, I know this is a morbid exercise. And I'm certainly not advocating wishing any ill on the folks on this list or on the list of others....we're just having a little sick fun.

I usually put together a list of ten each New Year's Day. Last year I got six correct: Walter Cronkite, Ed McMahon, Michael Jackson, Patrick Swayze, Edward Kennedy and Karl Malden. My other four are carried over to this year's list, which in total is:

1. Zsa Zsa Gabor
2. Kirk Douglas
3. Betty Ford
4. Billy Graham
5. Nelson Mandela
6. Dennis Hopper
7. Margaret Thatcher
8. Angela Lansbury
9. Charlie Sheen
10. Fidel Castro

Who do you predict will buy the farm this year? Put it in writing here and then let's keep track all year to see who comes up with the most!

Jeff

Yeah - I think he's just pretty old and getting side-swiped a couple of times by a lady a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic can't be benecifical to his health

Pete Docherty I thought of plus the current leaders of Afghanistan and Iraq but thought they were more certainties that potentials.

With apologies to Pete Docherty and the current leaders of Afghanistan and Iraq!!!

Yeah, I know I'm going to smoke a big fat turd in purgatory for this. Death to me is just a beginning so in my sick twisted way I don't see this as a morbid exercise. It's like counting who has gone from the minor leagues to the big leagues, that's all.

Well, if you're offended I suggest you take your eyes elsewhere. The "Christian" spirit hardly fears death. Death is a fact of life, pure and simple. And, since I make the rules here, this thread stays and those who don't like it can go....find something else to do while we celebrate the lives of those who pass on.

Maybe I see this thread differently than some people. Death is a part of life. If you are alive, you will die someday (unless the Lord comes back before then). I am sure that everyone has said or thought at one time or another that someone they know or know of doesn't have long either by their actions, health, or age. We are just giving our opinions on who we think doesn't have long left either by their actions, health, or age. I do not wish any ill will to anyone and I do not hope these people die. I always feel sad for the families of anyone that dies. I know how hard it is to lose a loved one. This thread is just an opinion on who we think we could lose this year. There is no malice involved. Please do not take it that way.

Oh man, what a tough week! Gary Coleman was a little troubled and he got his share of media attention here locally for his private life. But he always made me smile and I'll miss him.

Art Linkletter wasn't a surprise given his age but clearly his was a life well lived. I've heard so many wonderful things about him this week that I didn't know.

And Dennis Hopper -- so sad and not at all unexpected. At least his suffering is over and he will live on through some classic films. For me, I'll always enjoy his role in Hoosiers.

Rest in Peace Art, Dennis and Gary.

Our cat, that is now 3 years old, is named Gary after Gary Coleman. My son named him that. When my son decided on that name I asked why and my son said, "Gary is cool!" cheesy We found little Gary in the engine of our car crying when he was a tiny little thing. He was probably 5 weeks old at the time.

He actually got in there 3 different times, he was tiny so I guess he fit perfect in there. He cried very loudly each time he was in there. I think he had a plan to be helpless and cute and get a home in the process. We had no plans to have a cat but ended up with him after 3 attempts. He is a terrific family member. I cannot imagine not having him now. cheesy

Oh, forgot to mention, my cousin assigns points based off of age. It goes up to age 85. If someone dies that is 80 years old you subtract that from 85 (the oldest age points are taken from) and that's your total, so you'd get 5 points for that person. He's got the system down! haha!!!

With all joking aside, we have lost some really talented people. Every year I see the list and realize that I am getting old.

I sometimes feel that way. But did you know that some individuals, like Bob Feller, had their day in the sun long before I was born. He made it to the Hall of Fame, for example, in 1962. He pitched to Joe DiMaggio. He was part of the Greatest Generation. He lived a good, long life.

He got old, I didn't.

Now, to lose a contemporary -- like, say, Michael Jackson -- that's sobering.
