This survey was posted in another Christmas group & it was kinda fun, so what better place to post it than here?? You know what to do...copy paste & change the answers to your own. :smile:

About the TREE....
1. When do you put up the Christmas tree? I start the week of Thanksgiving. I get the tree up & if I have time, the lights & garland on, so that I can start decorating the Friday after Thanksgiving.

2. Real or Fake?? Fake. I’ve never had a real tree.

3. Lights? What color? Multi, with a strand or 2 of clear.

4. Garland? Yes

5. Theme or no theme? No theme. I have a lot of ornaments from the tree I always use to put up at my parents house. My mom went to a pre-decorated pencil tree, so I got any of the ornaments I wanted.

I have a 7 1/2' OSU Buckeye Tree in the basement that is all OSU ornaments w/ clear & red lights, red & silver garland, red & silver beads, & a red, & silver bow as a topper.

6. What kind of topper?? Lighted star, although I need to buy a new one this year, so I’m not sure what I’ll get

7. What's your favorite ornament? I can’t pick just one! I have several ornaments with special meanings!

8. What does your tree skirt look like? Red with snowmen & white trim

9. Where do you put your tree? In front of our 2 large living room windows.

10. Who decorates the tree? ME!!! My hubby gets the heck out of dodge & 2 or 3 of my long time girlfriends come over for “wine day”. We eat cheese, drink wine, & decorate the tree….ok, I decorate & they drink wine & watch! Lol!

11. What's "under" the tree?? Carolers, Santa, Snoopy & presents

12. Do you put candy canes on your tree? Sometimes, but not every year.


About the FOODS....
1. What's your favorite Christmas cookie? cut out sugar cookies.

2. Do you bake cookies and give them away? Definitely!

3. Any "special" foods or candy that you only have at Christmas time? Smokehouse spaghetti

4. What do you eat Christmas EVE?? Smokehouse spaghetti, garlic bread, bruschetta, salad, whatever side dishes everybody brings, cookies, & candy!

5. What do you eat on Christmas day?? My MIL makes turkey, chicken &/or ham, deviled eggs, 7 layer salad, corn, cookies, & candy

6. Do you like Eggnog?? yes

7. Do you like candy canes? Oh yeah

Decorations
1. Where do you hang your stockings? On the fireplace mantle

2. Do you put lights on your house? Yep, that’s my hubby’s job!

3. Got any outside lawn decorations? Yes, a lighted tree, a deer my Dad made, & we had a baby deer (also made by my Dad) but it was stolen!

4. Do you put up a nativity (crèche)? Yes

5. Do you hang mistletoe over the door? No, but every year I say I’m going too!

6. Got a wreath on your front door? Yes, for the fireplace too

3. Do you go to church on Christmas Eve? No – we did when I was little

4. Have you ever gone Caroling? Oh definitely…how fun!!!

5. Favorite Christmas Carol? Sleigh Ride

6. Do you believe in Santa? Absolutely

7. Do you leave Santa cookies? No…I always did when I was little

8. What about Rudolph...leave him anything? No

9. What was your best Christmas gift? I don’t know if I can pick just one! I’ve gotten so many nice gifts! One that comes to mind is a beautiful carousel (horses) from my hubby the 1st year we were dating

10. What was the worst/most odd gift? Can’t think of anything. Probably “the tree” that always got passed down from year to year. It’s a really ugly aluminum tree my brother made in shop class back in the 70’s. It’s a joke! When someone in our family got married, bought a house, etc., the tree would show up! Lol!

11. Do you go to a "work" Christmas party? Yes! We go out to eat & then out on the town…boss buys all night long!

12. Do you hate going? No, we have a ball!

13. Do you send Christmas cards? Yes

14. Do you make a "list"? Not a wish list, but a list of who I’m sending Christmas cards too & who I have to buy for, yes!

15. Do you check it twice? Yes

16. Have you been "naughty" or "nice"? Yes

17. Who's on your list this year? My hubby, friends, family gift exchange, my beaurician, my Godchildren, the mail lady, neighbors (we give a tray of homemade candy to the neighbors)

18. When do you start shopping? A friend & I go Christmas shopping the 1st or 2nd Friday in December & I get most of it done then, but I pick up things here & there throughout the year.

19. Do you shop on Black Friday? He** no!!

20. ARE YOU READY FOR CHRISTMAS? Mentally, yes (I’m always ready for Christmas!!!) - physically, no

About the TREE....
1. When do you put up the Christmas tree? I start either the night of or the day after Thanksgiving. Normally get the tree up on Saturday.

2. Real or Fake?? Always live.

3. Lights? Multi, hopefully this year the new LED lights.

4. Garland? Depends on my mood. Last year no, if I can find some I like this year then I probably will.

5. Theme or no theme? Again, it depends on what I am in the mood for. This year I am thinking all blue or maybe just all balls and no ornies.

6. What kind of topper?? Not sure, guess it will depend on how I decorate.

7. What's your favorite ornament? Cant think of just one. I might after I start unpacking them

8. What does your tree skirt look like? Red plush with white trim. Looks like Santas coat.

9. Where do you put your tree? Since this is our first Christmas in our new house I think I am gonna put it in front of the big picture window in the dining room (which is open into the living room)

10. Who decorates the tree? I do

11. What's "under" the tree?? Normally our pooch, Mollie. She likes the plush tree skirt.

3. Any "special" foods or candy that you only have at Christmas time? Smoke sausage and cheddar. Pumpkin bread.

4. What do you eat Christmas EVE?? Never a set menu.

5. What do you eat on Christmas day?? Roast Beef, potatoes, mac and cheese, corn, yeast rolls

6. Do you like Eggnog?? yup (with Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum)

1. Where do you hang your stockings? On the entertainment center.

3. Got any outside lawn decorations? I have some of the plastic lawn decorations, Mickey and Minnie dressed up like Santa and the Mrs. I have Snoopy dressed up like Santa, a goofy looking reindeer. And some others.

4. Do you put up a nativity (crèche)? Yes, in the house.

5. Do you hang mistletoe over the door? Hang it from my ceiling fan chain.

7. How long does it take you to decorate? Depends on how fast I move!

About the TREE....
1. When do you put up the Christmas tree? The day after Thanksgiving. I always have a 4 day weekend so I take advantage of the extra time to get that done and relax. Plus, it keeps me out of the stores on Black Friday.

2. Real or Fake?? Fake. I wish I had real but DH is a Scrooge and can't be bothered. :(

3. Lights? What color? Multi

4. Garland? Yes, Silver.

5. Theme or no theme? No theme. It's a mix of Disney ornaments and those that we have collected, plus some that my mom gave us to use on our 1st Christmas.

6. What kind of topper?? Angel

7. What's your favorite ornament? That's a tough one. Not sure I can pick one.

8. What does your tree skirt look like? White, plain.

9. Where do you put your tree? In front of 1 of our living room windows.

10. Who decorates the tree? My girls and I. DH gets everything out and then watches from the sidelines.

3. Any "special" foods or candy that you only have at Christmas time? Yes, Christmas is the only time of year that I really get into baking and making candy. So we have haystacks, 7 layer magic bars, holiday crunch, and Christmas Wreath candy that I don't make any other time of year.

4. What do you eat Christmas EVE?? We go to my in-laws on Christmas Eve and we usually have my father-in-law's famous bourbon meatballs, shrimp, mini-quiche's and then lasagna and garlic bread for dinner. We eat A LOT on Christmas Eve.

5. What do you eat on Christmas day?? The usual..turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, etc.

3. Favorite Christmas movie?? Wow, again with the tough questions. I don't think there's any way I could narrow it down to one. How about a big three? Christmas Vacation, It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story.

About the TREE....
1. When do you put up the Christmas tree? Thanksgiving weekend; the earlier the better.

2. Real or Fake?? A live tree. The artificial tree in the den goes up earlier…on Veteran’s Day.

3. Lights? I typically use a mix of clear and blue steady-on mini lights on the tree, followed by a separate wrap of multi-color, multi-function mini lights because they make the bf feel “Christmasie.” I also like to use strings of old-fashioned C-7 lights and bubble lights, but am now using them on the artificial tree because they get so hot.

4. Garland? Yes, I use shiny red bead strings.

5. Theme or no theme? While the ornaments are collected over time, there is a definite patriotic theme to the tree.

6. What kind of topper?? Usually a white dove.

7. What's your favorite ornament? The C-130 replica and the Operation Iraqi Freedom ornaments sent to me by a deployed friend who – in the middle of everything – remembered how much I love Christmas.

8. What does your tree skirt look like? It’s one I made 24 years ago. It’s a red quilt pattern with glittery gold trim.

9. Where do you put your tree? In the living room in front of the picture window.

10. Who decorates the tree? Me, just me. ..I live alone.

She spent all day with students baking cookies and it got to the point that the smell would make her ill. So, we didn’t bake cookies when I was growing up. Now, brownies, fudge, fruitcake, are a different story.

3. Any "special" foods or candy that you only have at Christmas time? Homemade fruitcake, homemade fudge, creamed onions w-cashews, and Russian tea (a hot tea and citrus juice punch).

4. What do you eat Christmas EVE?? Carry out Chinese. Fa-ra-ra-ra-ra!

About the TREE....
1. When do you put up the Christmas tree? It's a tradition in my family to put it up on the day after Thanksgiving so that's when I put it up.

2. Real or Fake?? Fake. I haven't had a real tree since I was 5 years old.

3. Lights? What color? Always multi-color.

4. Garland? couldn't do without it.

5. Theme or no theme? If my wife wants to hepl than there's a theme but if no then no theme.

6. What kind of topper?? Has to be an Angel.

7. What's your favorite ornament? I have a set of mini angels that I got from my grandmother who got from her dad who received them during the turn of the century.

8. What does your tree skirt look like? It changes every year.

9. Where do you put your tree? In the corner usually.

About the TREE....
1. When do you put up the Christmas tree? Usually the first weekend in December. I plan on putting it up earlier this year, after the American Thanksgiving.


2. Real or Fake?? Mine is artificial, a nice one though, when I was younger they were real, my brothers and I would fetch them ourselves with our dad.

3. Lights? What color? Clear mini lights (I used to use the ones the have seven different patterns available until I bought the pre-lit tree)

4. Garland? Sort of - but it’s not bulky garland, it’s strands of silver music notes on twisted silver wire and I use blue and silver sparkly ribbon.

5. Theme or no theme? No theme. But I have done it a few times. I have several new and family-favourite ornaments for the tree. One theme tree was all blue and silver with a few “must have ornaments” (I’ve done that several times) and the other theme I tried was a TY Beanie and Disney themed tree. Trying to do something a little different.

6. What kind of topper?? I change it each year from an old world Santa, to a lighted star and if they ever give it back to me, I’ll use my parents antique Angel tree topper.

7. What's your favorite ornament? One of my favorites hangs on my parents’ tree - not mine. I have one that’s extra special because it reminds me of my dog curled up in her whicker bed in miniature. There are ones I have to include, but too many to mention.

8. What does your tree skirt look like? I have a large Christmas Disney themed tree skirt that I’ve been using for nine years, but sometimes I use fake snow instead, or if I have my Christmas train chugging along around the tree, I don’t use a tree skirt.

9. Where do you put your tree? Well - the last two years it’s been in our bedroom because we didn’t trust our “son of a feral cat” to leave it standing. We’re thinking of a way to secure it in the corner. I like seeing trees in the middle of people’s homes in front of a window, but I enjoy looking out the window so much that the tree would block the view.

10. Who decorates the tree? I do. I decorate while Christmas music is playing. My husband sometimes helps me haul the boxes out, but I like to do it all on my own. Hoisting and heaving the boxes is part of the excitement. It doesn’t feel like work. I sometimes stop mid-way to enjoy a glass of eggnog. I call my husband when everything is ready to present. Although, I critique the tree and change things around a bit before I’m completely satisfied.

11. What's "under" the tree?? A variety of treasured Christmas characters or my Christmas train. We don’t put the presents under our tree, we wrap them and bring them to my parents place to open with them instead.

12. Do you put candy canes on your tree? No, but I used to on our “kiddie tree”. I used candy canes for gift decorations or attach them to cards I pass around work.

About the FOODS....
1. What's your favorite Christmas cookie? Toss up between sugar cookies, shortbread and gingerbread snowmen cookies. (I can’t eat them anymore, but I miss baking them.)

2. Do you bake cookies and give them away? No, but I plan on doing it this year if my husband will let me pass some along.

3. Any "special" foods or candy that you only have at Christmas time? I don’t eat sweets at all (the odd bit of Ice Cream), but I have to have Eggnog during the holidays. Chocolate turtles used to be my seasonal faves. along with the goodies mentioned above.

4. What do you eat Christmas EVE?? A variety of wraps, munchies, shrimp, etc. We used to have meat pie, but there’s so many guests now that we put out different snack foods every hour on the buffet table.

5. What do you eat on Christmas day?? Turkey and all the trimmings, I take some of my brother’s pickerel (he’s a vegetarian, but he eats fish). When we go to Ottawa for Christmas it’s ham with a few vegetable dishes, I prefer turkey - turkey - did I mention I prefer turkey? I prefer turkey.

6. Do you like Eggnog?? Oh yeahhhhhh! Gotta have it or it doesn’t feel like Christmas. There’s a local store that keeps it in stock until close to Easter. Lucky me!

7. Do you like candy canes? No, I never have. Strange though, I remember eating old fashioned peppermint sticks, but I never cared for candy canes - even the flavored kind.

Decorations
1. Where do you hang your stockings? We used to hang them on a wrought-iron railing growing up because we didn’t have a fireplace. The same stocking I had for my first Christmas is still filled by Santa and rests on top of the mantel, it’s too heavy to hang anymore. Last year or the year before, I started small stockings for us so we’d have something to do while we were waiting for people to wake up so we could go over to my parent’s place.

2. Do you put lights on your house? Actually, just on the railing outside and inside we used to drape them around the windows. Again, with the cat, we didn’t hang indoor lights the last few years.

3. Got any outside lawn decorations? No. Can you believe it?

4. Do you put up a nativity (crèche)? Yes, but not outside.

5. Do you hang mistletoe over the door? Are you kidding? What’s my name again?

6. Got a wreath on your front door? Yes. I have a wreath for every door (bedrooms, etc.) The one I like the most hangs on the outside door.

7. How long does it take you to decorate? Two weekends tops, I do it in small doses so as not to shock my husband. I really hope I get my Christmas villages out in the living room this year (again the cat). We’ve been lucky that our master bedroom is so large, I’ve been decorating it, but there still remains so much more in storage that seems to be screaming “let me out of the box”.

1. Favorite Children's Xmas TV show/cartoon? Toss up of three (trust me that’s narrowing it down) The Night Before Christmas (narrated by Joel Grey), The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, and A Charlie Brown Christmas.

2. Wonderful Life / Miracle on 34th Street / A Christmas Carol (scrooge)…which
is the best? I’m a mood watcher so it depends on what mood I’m in which one I’d think is best. If I have to choose one, it would be Miracle on 34th Street (with Edmund Gwenn and Natalie Wood), but the season isn’t complete without at least one viewing of Alistair Sim’s A Christmas Carol or Jimmy Stewart’s It’s a Wonderful Life. I guess they tie, but there are a few missing from the list in my opinion.

3. Favorite Christmas movie?? Aside from the ones mentioned above, I enjoy watching A Christmas Story, Holiday Inn/White Christmas (haven’t seen them in a while), Polar Bear Express was okay, but I preferred the book. Is the The Walton’s Homecoming consider a Thanksgiving or Christmas special? The Bell’s of St. Mary’s, A Hobo’s Christmas, and the first Home Alone. If I have to pick a favourite, I guess it would be Miracle on 34th Street.

4. Have you ever seen the Nutcracker Suite Ballet live? Yes. You know what - it scared me when I was little. Saw it again when I was a young adult working in Toronto.

5. Ever been to the Radio City Music Hall Christmas show?? No, but I’ve been to a few big halls in Toronto.

6. Ever gone to the movies on Xmas Day? Not unless you count our family room.

:cry: I suppose I was the first one to be asked to shorten my answer. Too many words. HaHa. Well, what do you expect from a festive chatterer like myself? I'm not a one-word reply kinda gal.

Other Christmas things....
1. Favorite Christmas book or story? The Night Before Christmas, A Christmas Carol, Polar Express, The First Miracle, (and the book I’m working on - haha)

2. Do you stuff your stockings with any types of food? No, but Santa does. Usually a box of cracker jacks, lucky elephant popcorn, a few tiny Christmas oranges and a candy cane. One year I had a jumbo stocking with my name on it, and my room-mate slipped liver into it or her boyfriend did. Don’t worry I found it. Yuck. I wasn't very jolly about that.

3. Do you go to church on Christmas Eve? Considering I almost became a Nun, it bothers me to admit that I don’t go anymore. I sure have fond memories of it though.

4. Have you ever gone Caroling? Yes, about six or seven times. I used to enjoy listening to other carolers too.

5. Favorite Christmas Carol? I don’t have single favorites of anything. I can limit myself to five and that’s the best I can do. Little Drummer Boy, O Holy Night, Silent Night (any language), The Christmas Song, Winter Wonderland. Gosh, it was hard to narrow them down.

6. Do you believe in Santa? Oh sure, I even track him on Christmas Eve so I’ll know when to go to bed.

7. Do you leave Santa cookies? Yes and No. Before we got the cat, I did. O’Malley would be up on the table lapping up Santa’s milk, I don’t think he’d eat the cookies though. So, I leave a note saying “help yourself to a snack from the fridge”.

8. What about Rudolph...leave him anything? Not sure how it would go over, but he’s welcome to share the cat’s food. I love it when the grandchildren discuss what they want to leave out.

9. What was your best Christmas gift? When my dad beat cancer, that was the best! It played out like a movie, we received the confirmation the morning of Christmas Eve that all the cancer was gone, the tumors were destroyed, there was no residue. That was four years ago.

10. What was the worst/most odd gift? I don’t recall any personally. The multi-colour knitted slippers from one of my grandma’s sisters were an annual tradition for her . Mine were always two-tone and I was fine with them although I never was much of a slipper person. My brothers had solid ones and they were fine. One of my cousin’s (four sisters) always received the pair that indicated it was time for our Great Aunt to buy some more wool - you should have seen all the colours in the slippers she received. My cousins were talking about it once and she said, “I always thought she liked me best.” So I said, “Maybe that was her way of showing it. She used more colours of wool for you so your slippers would be unique.” I tried sounding sincere, but all four sisters burst into laughter.

11. Do you go to a "work" Christmas party? I’ve missed four of them due to conflicting dates and such. This year, I’m on the Christmas Party Planning Committee, in charge of Prizes. Cool.

12. Do you hate going? Honestly, sometimes it doesn’t feel like a Christmas party at all. I think the only Christmas music that plays is during dinner. This year is going to be grand. We’re doing a Winter Wonderland theme and it’s going to be quite festive.

13. Do you send Christmas cards? Yes, I mail out well over two dozen, deliver to mailboxes at work (over 30 cards) and a few neighbors. Last year we only received about fifteen cards. The majority of my relatives stopped sending cards years ago, but the cards are part of my tradition, I haven‘t been able to stop sending them.

14. Do you make a "list"? A Christmas card list - I have to do one on the computer so I won’t forget anyone (the older I get - ya know), last year I forgot someone and the year before I forgot someone else, but phoned in both cases on Christmas Day instead. I also make a small wish list in case someone is stuck for ideas.

15. Do you check it twice? More than twice, I edit it sometimes.

16. Have you been "naughty" or "nice"? Beyond nice and you can tell that to Santa, please.

17. Who's on your list this year? My husband, our two sons, five grandchildren, my parents and one brother (the other brother asked to stop exchanging, I had a hard time dealing with that the first two years, but he felt awkward because I gave him something and he didn’t have anything for me so I listened last year, but it didn’t feel right. I also give something to my God-Mother. I exchange with a few close friends and one neighbour, I buy a little something for an old friend of my mother’s for her cats. I have to admit I buy something for myself, but it comes from my childhood invisible friend named Pretend Heather. She always knows just what to get me. (hehe)

18. When do you start shopping? I shop all year long, it takes the pressure off. I usually finish up the first weekend in December, but I save my husband and my dad for last because they sometimes change their minds about what they want or go ahead and buy it instead of waiting.

19. Do you shop on Black Friday? No. The rush the weekend before Christmas is enough of a shopping nightmare.

1. When do you put up the Christmas tree? I start putting the smaller fake trees up Thanksgiving evening, the main tree is put up the first Sunday in December as it is a live one and like it looking fresh for Christmas day.

2. Real or Fake?? Real for our main tree, fake for the other rooms. That way I can have them up as long as I like.

3. Lights? What color? Multi, and lots of them.

4. Garland? Yes

5. Theme or no theme? No theme usually, some of the smaller ones I do but not the main one.

About the TREE....
1. When do you put up the Christmas tree? The 9ft. tree on the day after Thanksgiving. The 6 1/2 ft. and the two 4ft. trees go up a few days to a week later.

2. Real or Fake?? Fake. We have used real 9-10 ft.trees but ours is usually up until mid Jan. and they tend to get dry by then.

3. Lights? What color? Mostly clear with a few strands of color on the large tree.

4. Garland? Beads on the large tree and thin gold garland on the 6 1/2 ft..

5. Theme or no theme? One of the 4 ft. trees is mostly nautical. No well defined themes for the others.

6. What kind of topper?? St Nicholas on the large tree.

7. What's your favorite ornament? I have many. Some are special as gifts, others I have collected (I really like the Inge Glass ) and a few were from my grandparents tree.

8. What does your tree skirt look like? Red and green plaid with white trim for the large tree.

9. Where do you put your tree? Large tree in the living room near the stair way were we have extra ceiling height, the 61/2 ft. tree in the dining room, one 4ft. in our bedroom and the other on the upstairs landing.

4. What do you eat Christmas EVE?? It varies. A very close friend always hosts a "brunch" for a small group--actually it's a feast. Whatever she decides to serve is excellent.
