Does the Ice Cream Man still visit your neighborhood?
If so, do you still scream when you hear the music?
Man, I remember chasing that joker down when I was a kid.
I know this profession has probably gone by the wayside, just wanted to check.
See I told you this was important!!!cheesy

As a matter of fact, he does! I know him personally and went to school with his kid! Told me he does it just for seeing all the little ones go crazy! He's a good guy.....and I must admit......
I still get excited to hear it!

I wish! We did as a kid and I loved it! DVD and I discussed this sometime ago..I was jealous that they have an ice cream truck that comes to their neighborhood. It would be a fun summer job I think buzzin' around and watching all the kids running toward ya for a treat.

He does. There are a few kids who actually still chase after him too !!
I as well have fond memories of the times when the ice cream truck would visit our street.

There is an ice cream truck that goes down the street behind us, but doesn't come down our street.
The phone book actually has an ad so you can rent an ice cream truck for parties and stuff, I wanted to do it last summer but didn't have a good enough excuse to do it.

Are you kidding? We have 90 kids on our street. We have TWO ice cream trucks that come through at least 4 times a day, even during the winter.

Yeah those were good days back in the 70s.... I would chase him down like a madman.
We do have one that comes through every day in the summer. Kids tend have designated stops for him though.... not as fun as us running and screaming - but still fun.

I recall the one we had as a kid. I remember of course the main thing being sold was ice cream but I think they also sold popcorn. I can't recall if they sold chips, candy bars and other things. What do they sell these days for those of you who still have an ice cream truck in your neighborhood? Just ice cream or other goodies too?

Mostly ice cream, but also candy. On winter days they will sell hot chocolate too.

Yes we have an ice cream truck that comes through here, but the music he plays is annoying. I remember as a kid in Baltimore, the Good Humor truck would come through and the driver had to manually ring the bells by pulling a string. We would yell "Wait a minute!" and he would stop and we would go running to get our daily ice cream.

Not only do we have at least 2 - 3 that come multiple times a day from about April to December, but we have a PIZZA TRUCK (yes, a truck that sells hot pizza!!!!) and TWO hucksters that sell fruit! I live in a very old-fashioned neighborhood in Philadelphia. Still have many corner Mom & Pop stores, too.

He still comes here even in the winter. In fact one just drove by 30 minutes ago when I was outside watering plants. We also have guys that push carts with ice cream and ride bikes pulling ice cream carts.
When I was real little I remember our ice cream man hands would tremble real bad. I always thought his hands were just cold and shivering from putting his hands in the freezer. Later I found out he had an illness that caused it.

We have one in our neighborhood. Comes every day from around Easter to end of September I think. Plays the same tune you can hear from miles away. Funny thing in my street it's not the kids that come running but the adults ! One of my neighbors buys ice cream every single day.

I'd love from my kids to experience that, too. I remember screaming and running after the guy, and screaming for my mom to follow quickly with a quarter. "Mama, I need some money! Quick!"
Good times.

We have two ice cream trucks that frequent our neighborhood in the summer. My favorite is the one that plays the electronic Christmas Carols as he drives around (no lie!). I still run after the truck with my money, and I'm 48. My Mom and I see who can spot the first ice cream truck of the year; it's a sure sign of spring!

He still comes by and it says Chucks Ice Cream on the truck so everytime I hear the music I say to my dog, "Here comes Chuck!" She'll run to the door or look out the window and watch him go by.

When I was working 8-6 every day, my son told me that my dog would start looking out the window everyday around 5:45 waiting for me to come home. No one ever prompted him to do so, he just knew it was close to time for me to come home. My son took a picture of him doing that so I could see. It was really cute. (sorry to get off subject from the ice cream story).

Oh yeah, we still have the ice cream man daily driving by our place...carries the old favorites and a lot of new novelty stuff, too. I am pretty sure that his loud music is the entire reason the teens here have to upgrade their car stereos! LOL
We also have The Snow Cone Man, who sells...snow cones! And marzipan, chicharrones, and various other Mexican treats. The kids prefer the Pickle Snow Cone...a styrofoam cup filled with ice, a dill pickle embedded in the middle, and pickle juice instead of syrup!
THEN we have the Mexican Popsicle Dude...he sells the greatest popsicles made from fruit...watermelon, pina colada, strawberry...my kids are pretty sure the lime is the best...EW!
Only the Ice Cream Man has the music, though. The kids can hear him from three blocks away...plenty of time to hunt down some change for a cold treat. ALL of these men at some point have given my children or children in the neighborhood treats for free. I don't know how they make any money at it, but I guess they must. The neighbors and I, though, take turns buying for all the kids.

Yes we do! They sell different flavors of flavored ice and other stuff. The only time DD ever had one was at a birthday party at the park. I don't know if the parents called him to come or he was just passing by, but they bought a flavored ice for each child---I think they are $1 or $2 dollars now. The truck does come by our house, even in the woods, but we live far enough away from the road that we can't hear the music unless we're outside. We'd have to run a sprint to make it to the end of our driveway to catch the truck!
Growing up it was a quarter to get a choice of two flavors---red or blue. I didn't even like the stuff, but I liked going to the truck and getting the cup the treat came in. It was plastic & had a design on it. Aaah---the summer of 1976/77. My SIL still stops the truck and gets a treat and she's in her late 20s!
