Selfridges department store in London opened its Christmas department yesterday, complete with suitably attired staff and Chrsitmas music - so I thought it was time to get back on the forum for Christmas 2010!

WOW! That's really early. I'm thinking that staff may get pretty cranky by Dec. 24th.

The store claims tourists like to take home Christmas decorations as souvenirs of their visit to the UK (??) and there is a big demand. It would appear some of the staff are struggling with their antlers!

I saw the pictures of the inside of the store on the news, and of course the news anchor said "it is waaaay to early" Hey at least they were playing "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" during the story. I would rather see Christmas stuff in stores year round if it were up to me.

IHarrods, the upmarket department store in London, opened their Christmas shop last week as well. The retailer I work for is going into Christmas mode later this month.
Personally, I'd prefer it if the retail glut didn't start until after Thanksgiving. I mean the Canadian Thanksgiving which is the one I celebrate. That's the second weekend in October. I love the holidays, but I sincerely believe part of the reason so many people are put off by Christmas is retail starting earlier every year. It looks, well, greedy and a bit cynical.
Makes things all the more difficult for those of us who Defend Christmas. cheesy
