My little chihuahua Rascal who I've had for 16 years died in my arms last night. I called the vet to take him in and have him put to sleep because he was suffering and they wouldn't see him. They said bring him in tomorrow morning. He suffered for about 3 hours not being able to breathe until he just couldn't do it anymore and he died in my arms. We wrapped him in his little blanket and buried him around 12:30 last night. My coworkers do not understand and I can't tell them what;s wrong. I've cried all night and now I have a huge migraine. I think I'll go home sick, but then I'll go home to an empty house with no little dog to crawl on the couch and snuggle with. what do I do?

You have my deepest sympathy! I really feel bad for what you are going through and to have a job that doesn't understand. My job is the opposite and take furry family members into consideration in such tragic situations. Please know that we are here for you.

Oh my!!! Rascal was a loyal friend but he was also family. My heart breaks for you. The loss of our furry family is just as hard. I don't know why some people cannot understand that. There are many of us out here who do care and know how difficult this time is for you. May you find comfort in knowing how much love and joy you brought to his life and he to yours. I send you my deepest heartfelt sympathy.

A friend of mine suggested to get yourself a Teddy Bear. You can hold and hug him until the pain subsides a little. You can hold and squeeze and cry into it. She says it helps. She has suffered the loss more than once. It's just a suggestion. It's not a replacement for Rascal. Just something to hold and squeeze until the pain subsides a little.

:( I know your pain.. we just lost our little tiny pom about 2 weeks ago. At one point I even gave her mouth to snout to breath for her and brought her back to life. But she was ready to go :( So we had to put her down. Its heart breaking. Sorry for your loss...

Always the saddest to hear when our pups go. I may not have advice to deal or cope with such things, I've just always cried and cried when this happens. Then you can feel free to cry even more. Wouldn't be sad if it wasn't love ya know. Cry, love and always remember your lil pup. Hope you feel better....

Hi everyone, I'm not feeling much better, last night was my little ones birthday party and at each kids birthday, I have someone take a family shot of all of us. That way we get a good family picture every 6 months. I thought for a minute that we had to redo the shot because Rascal wasn't in the picture. It was sad for him not to be there. This is the first weekend without him so it'll be hard, but hopefully with school starting next week, I'll be busy and not think about him so much. thanks for all the kind words from everyone.

I am so sorry. I know how I felt when we lost any of our pets. It is like we loose a huge piece of ourselves. Just please be happy for all those years you had and know he isn't hurting anymore. Silly to say it that way I know but I have nevewr been one that is great with words. So sending you virtual hugs and warm thoughts.

The only thing you can do right now, is grieve. And that takes time, be it for a pet, a relative, friend, whoever. We lost a dog almost 12 years ago, and while we have had others in the mean time, including one now that we love to death, it was honestly months before I could think of him without bursting into tears. He was my baby, even if he was about 90 lbs. But know that he is in a better place, he is out of pain, and even if he was suffering at the end, he knew he was with you, and I'm sure that was easier on him than in a cold, sterile, vets office. Take care, take the time to grieve, and know that it does get easier as time goes on. When the time is right, a new pet will come along and while they never make you forget your previous pets, they do fill that hole in your heart, no matter how many other pets you've had.
