I have mentioned before that when I was a kid, my dad and I used to set up a Christmas village. I wanted to post pics on here of it, but unfortunately I don't have any good enough to be able to see too well. Last year around Christmas my wife and I were in a small town here in Texas called Mineola. They have a lot of antique shops there, and in one of them we saw a couple of little houses just like the ones my dad had for the village, they are called Putz houses, I think. Well that just brought back a flood of memories. They were a bit expensive, apparently they are considered collectors items, so we weren't able to buy them. Well pictured here are 2 houses that are very similar, my wife made them for me out of cereal boxes, and she surprised me with them Friday night. The bases and one of the fences are plain cardboard and, like I said before, the houses are made out of cereal boxes. She worked on them off and on for 2 days. I said it before, she is the most wonderful wife I could ask for.

How absolutely touching!!! It really warms my heart to hear you speak of Christmas-A-Holic in such a loving manner! I think she is pretty wonderful...but you would know better than I. The two of you are a couple to look up to!!! Thank you for being such a good example!

When I first saw them, I thought she bought them at a thrift store or somehting. Then she told me how she made them, and how she didn't think they were very good. I told her they look great, and very close to the real thing. Close enough that I thought she bought them.cheesy

Thanks everyone. That was my first attempt making something like that. Those putz houses are made of cardboard and I had to look online on how to make them and it suggested cereal boxes. They are a little difficult to make and don't feel I got them quite right but I tried! cheesy Need a little more practice to get them right. They are fun to make!

I am kicking myself to this day because someone did throw some out and I saw them at a thrift store a few years ago for a buck a piece. I didn't buy them. I then saw at antique stores they are worth some money! Hard to believe that something made of cardboard being worth anything.
