dominick I hear Galena has a real nice Christmas light display, ever been there?

dominick
11-01-2006, 07:59 PM
I haven't. It's a bit of a hike from here (about 4 hours). In fact, I hadn't heard anything about their decorating until now. Did you have friends pass through or something?

Ervserver
11-01-2006, 08:15 PM
was there in the summer, there are many civil war era mansions there. I saw a brochure where they really decorate up the town and mansions for Christmas. There are walking tours, parade, etc.

I saw like four or so posts that had something to do with Shakira (sp?) in random sections of the board. Definitely spam. I'm usually up a bit later than the majority of the board.

good to have the night shift covered, is it just me or does the internet seem to run faster late at night / very early morning ?

dominick
11-04-2006, 10:19 AM
where, dominick? did you delete?

xo

Nope, I didn't delete them. Didn't have the chance to. They were scattered in different sections.

I think the board runs faster at night and the morning because there are far fewer people browsing. It gets kinda lonely 'round these parts at 2 am.

I keep a Walkman next to my bed and when I can't sleep I listen to Christmas music, Andy Williams puts me right out :-D

dominick

Is it just me, or has the board been really slow recently? I wonder if there's any correlation to the recent spamming activity.

Ervserver
11-05-2006, 09:37 AM
I noticed it really slow at times yesterday. In my humble opinion it's due to work load at the host server. As it gets closer to Christmas there will be more traffic, expect more slow downs.

dominick

The Shakira guy/bot/entity was back last night and this morning. I think I got a total of eight posts by two users. :-? What do these guys hope to accomplish? Do they really think people browsing a Christmas forum are going to click on their purported inappropriate links?

dvdelf
11-07-2006, 07:41 AM

dominick
11-08-2006, 11:29 PM
Nope, I'll be here on and off plenty. Certain members of the family are only good in low doses, so I'll be looking to duck out every half hour or so. 8-)

Ervserver
11-08-2006, 11:32 PM
8-) i hear ya there. I'll be around later in the day and night. I could see some foreign spammers taking advantage of the day. I'm on several other forums and have had some of my busiest times on holidays

dominick
11-08-2006, 11:34 PM

 I'm going to have to be down there at some point, I'm cooking the turkey this year! The digital probe thermometer takes the guess work out of it, though, so I don't have to be constantly checking on it.

Ervserver

Those digital probe thermometers are nice, and takes the guess work out of cooking. Hate to poison the family with undercooked meat !

How is it decided who cooks the turkey?

dominick
11-12-2006, 10:08 PM
Well in years past when the whole family gathered at the Grandparent's home it was always my Grandma. Since she sold the house and moved to Florida, we've been having it here and my mom has been cooking it. This year I proclaimed that I will be cooking the turkey, and I think she's just glad she doesn't have to do it.

When I was a kid I thought mothers loved doing all the cooking, when i got old enough to cook she seemed eager to pass on the duties

Christy Carol
11-13-2006, 06:23 AM
Every year for weeks in advance my mother constantly tells me how she needs my help and what all she needs for me to do on Thanksgiving so I get up early and go over to her house only to sit on the barstool and talk to her most of the morning. Every time I get up or ask what I can do she says "Nothing". Last year I finally starting grabbing stuff and started cooking!

That's all she wanted, you in the same room. I don't even attempt to help in the kitchen because not only is it not my forte, it is dangerous and counterproductive to have me in the room. for one thing, I'm always taking a swig of eggnog, so one hand is tied up in that. Also, I'm still not sure where the stove is. It's not that thing full of dishes, is it?

dvdelf
11-13-2006, 07:01 AM
yes

or at my grandmothers house its where she keeps all her important papers. Really

sheepsnot
11-13-2006, 07:09 AM
When the IRS shows up, she just nonchalantly turns on the oven as if to bake cookies, and tada! No evidence. Shrewd gramma you have there.

dvdelf
11-13-2006, 07:10 AM
yes well when i was cooking the one day she almost lost all her important papers

When I get to the family Christmas I open the frig and take a swig straight from the new eggnog cartons, this essentially makes them all mine

Because we had so many kids in the family, we had to share candy canes, so I would lick only the red stripe and one of the other kids would get to lick the white stripe. Takes talent, let me tell you.
