About taking all your decorations off on the 26th,ive noticed it does not feel the same and have been tempted to take them all down but haven't because of the kids,im normally a little down after christmas day because for me christmas is well and truly over for another year and the best remedy for that is to take everything down instead of keeping them up for another week as my christmas mood is gone.

I start to get disappointed Christmas Eve actually. I usually do try to keep my decorations up and drag out the season at least through New Year because I dont want it to be over. It is very sad though. I try to stay happy and I have my oldest Son's Birthday in early February and I try to look forward to that! Dont think about this now..we are about to get into our favorite time of the year cheesy

This will be your first Christmas with us. I bet you won't be as down this year. Last year was my first Christmas with MMC and I didn't feel as down as I have in the past. People here keep the spirit alive with the 12 days of Christmas! Maybe you will feel a little better this year. cheesy
To answer the question, my decorations stay up until at least January 1st, sometimes a little later.

I also feel very down after Christmas, I love all the hype and everything it stands for.
Last year I took the decorations down on the 27th, which I felt terrible for.
This year we are getting a new Christmas tree, and I am going to make sure we only put the Christmas tree up 12 days before (not the beginning of the month lol!!)

I keep my decorations up until the first weekend of january. I do have a tendency to get kind of depressed on christmas but I usually snap out of it on the 26th when I go shopping for new decorations. Then I get in the mood to start planning for the following christmas.

As most everybody else on this site, I am also a huge Christmas fanatic. I understand the "down" feeling. Although I think for us it is more of the dread of having to pack up the decor and haul it back into the attic. But we do a few things to keep the excitement after the holidays going for a few more days as well as all year long.
1. Christmas sales - we hit the stores as they are clearing out all of their decorations. We start making decoration plans for the next year and we save money.
2. Christmas room - Our guest room is decked out for Christmas year round, complete with a tree. We have a recliner in there so we can relax and watch our favorite Holiday movie any time of the year.
3. A Nativity - My wife decided a few years ago to keep out one small nativity piece out year round. It is a simple reminder of what it's all about.
4. Christmas in July- Complete with a Holiday meal and a few small gifts for the family. A great and welcome break from the hot and humid south Georgia heat.
We also keep our decor up until after the new year (usually take it down on the 2nd)

We won't even think of taking any decorations down until after Jan. 6--the Feast of the Epiphany. After all one can't end Christmas before the three kings arrive. We are not completely undecorated until Feb.2 which before we had Ground Hog Day was known as Candlemas--the day the presentation of the Christ child in the temple is celebrated. In the ancient Church this was considered the end of the Christmas Season. In our latitude winter gets quite dreary after a while so its nice to stretch out the Season.

Same here, everything stays until at least Epiphany, sometimes later. It's hard to let it go.

Dont dread it as there is always next Christmas to plan and look forward too. Just think about how quick it actually comes around again. I cant believe its only 108 days to go!!! Soon we'd be in the double digits LOL

We also keep all decorations up through Epiphany and beyond. We like to invite different friends and family over several nights in late December through early January for snacks, spirits, coffee (we tell them to bring any holiday leftovers to share). After all the hustle and bustle, it is nice to relax and enjoy the decorations with loved ones without the pressure.
Usually the 2nd weekend of Jan. we meet my wife's family and all their kids at a rented mountain cabin for a few days of fellowship and snowtubing. There is some serious food consumption at that time. The owners of the cabin leave some Christmas decorations up for us to enjoy. Therefore we enjoy the season through mid January. I encourage others to go well beyond Christmas day.

DH & I decided on a compromise our first Christmas as a married couple: I put up the tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving (me) and leave it up until New Year's Day (DH).
DH would wait until December 1 to put it up and I'd take it down December 26th!

Christmas day itself can be a let down for me. Being single, I watch all of my brothers and sisters children and grandchildren do their thing, and I feel left out kinda. My friends and I make it a point to either get out Christmas night or to have a party to offset some of that. And I always look forward to New Years Eve. Tree has to still be up for that. My parents didnt do that when I was a child, but I like it. Doesn't quite look the same after Christmas but it is still nice. I do hate the way the music just cuts off though..thank goodness for internet outlets and Comcast!

Our tree stays up until sometime between New Year's Day and Twelfth Night. I always dread bedtime on Christmas Day because I know the seasonal music vanishes from the airwaves at 12:01 a.m. of the 26th. I always think that I'll keep the Christmas music and movies going until New Year's, but they don't have the same "flavor" after Christmas. What spoils it for me is the rest of the world dropping its Christmas spirit like a Halloween mask (now there's a mixed metaphor!) the very minute Christmas Day is over. Then it's back to work, business as usual ... and I come here for some empathy!

I always wake up Dec. 26th feeling kinda sad that Christmas is over. I love the anticipation that I feel for 3-4 months before. And I love the Christmas spirit that everyone has. BUT, I usually take my tree and decorations down within 3-4 days after Christmas. As much as I love Christmas, it's just to depressing to keep the house decorated when it's over so I just want to get everything back to normal.

I always feel a little down on the 26th. I think it's just because I've been expecting something for so long and then it's gone for another 365/366 days. It's probably the saddest day of my year ='(

I think thats why I like to decorate so early. It seems to go by so fast, so I tend to put things out early. We started way early last year. I do have a mother in law who is so annoying about holidays. She doesn't like them early and takes everything down just days after Christmas. I find when people do that, it really annoys me!!!!! I like to ring in the new year with Christmas decorations. I like to leave it up into early January sort of like, bringing in the new year with lights, decorations and happy feelings. You know what I mean?

I just don't know how people can take the decorations down before the new year. The entire Christmas period should extend into the new year, and I try to leave them up as long as I can get away with! It only comes once a year so we all should try to make it something ultra-special.
If you feel a bit glum after the 25th, then try to plan your days, and have something festive, fun and Christmassy each day.

I think it's okay to keep your decorations and tree up until at least January 1st - I kind of look at the week after Christmas as Christmas week anyway - I usually attend parties and keep holiday music going at least in the few days after Christmas. But I definitely do get sad once New Year's Eve rolls around. That's when I come on here and read the forums - they help cheer me up! :):snowball:

We take our tree down sometime around January 2nd or so, and yeah it's pretty sad. I hate walking into the living room while it's still winter and there's no lit Christmas tree!

Honestly I cant stand the week after christmas. Like other have stated the radio just
cuts off the holiday music at midnight,it seems on tv and everywhere else its
business as usual. I am still on vacation from work and its hard to really explain
but I do feel very depressed the week after. On new years eve I get kind of sad,
that holiday is always bittersweet to me,its like the final little hooray of the holiday
season.

Interesting reading everyones comments and strange that your music just cuts off as that doesnt happen here. The run up in early December is a great time.
The 26th (Boxing Day) is like a rerun of Christmas day here but not quite the same excitement. I always have time off before and after the day and try to extend the feeling by continuing to watch the christmas movies and programmes.
The tree wont come down before New Years day and by then I'm finally able to focus on different things like plans for the coming year.

I used to be really down by Christmas day night, but I've tried and succeeded to enjoy the whole week. I'm off work and we usually have a few get togethers with friends over that period. Have to agree though, New Years for me is really depressing, even my optimistic outlook can't hide the fact that the holiday season is over and it's back to work. I take the decorations down on New Years day and it's an awful feeling. Best not to think too much about it and just look forward the next one.

Yes, I definitely agree with you. By the end of Christmas day itself when all the fun stuff is over I begin to feel quite sad.
The worst thing for me though is when I first walk into the living room after the decorations are down. The room suddenly looks so sparse :-?. But oh well, all good things come to an end - and at least with christmas it always comes back around
I still have one set of lights up from last Christmas. I thought they looked cool so I kept them up. I was thinking of taking them down so i would have something to look forward to, but I don't know...

By the time xmas comes, my decos have been up about a month, if not much longer. I'm tired of looking at them. I love it before the holiday, but when its done, its done. Its rare for my decos to make it till jan 1. usually i take them done the day or so after xmas, just depending on how i feel.
also, we have a teeny tiny home, so the tree and the stuff takes up a LOT of room. maybe if i had more space it would stay up longer, but I doubt it.

I feel down when the family go back to work at the beginning of January. I don't leave my decorations up until Twelth Night because I am a Christian and don't want to be thought to be superstitious! Besides, my maths isn't up to calculating when Twelth Night is!

I always feel a bit down too on Christmas night, knowing it's all almost over. I have been known to take all the decorations down the next day, but this year I'm going to try keeping everything up until New Year's day.
