A few people i know go away on a holiday over the festive season - not to visit relatives but to have a break???? And worst of all (in my opinion) they go to a place with warm (ish) weather.
Just woundering if anyone on here has or would go away over Christmas - visiting relatives not included. I personally wouldnt, though if i HAD to chose then it would be Lapland-(i aim to be going in the not too distant future money permitting but just priour to Christmas.)
As dorothy said in the wizard of oz, theres no place like home.....Especially at Christmascheesy

I'd only go somewhere if I could take my whole family to the mountains or a ski lodge or something, but never some place warmer. I went to the Bahamas for my honeymoon in December of '08 and just being in warm weather so close to Christmas threw me off! lol

Absolutely not!! Home is where I want to be at Christmas nowhere else, not even Lapland! But maybe Lapland after or before the holidays! :)
I used to go away every christmas in my early 20's. I once even missed Christmas because I was flying in a plane and we passed the international dateline so skipped December 25th! *gasp*

Couldn't do it - ever! Especially somewhere warm. I'm waaay too much of a traditionalist. November and December are strickly dedicated to everything Christmas. What I need is all right here during the season!
P.S. - My first post since last year! Greetings all :)

Maybe.... Most of our Christmas activities occur Christmas Eve.. I wouldn't mind leaving the 25th and coming back the 30th. We don't have any kids, if that makes a difference.

I don't think I like anyone else all that much to spend Christmas away from my family LOL. I'm skin tight with my parents & my family. Not even my boyfriend...I wouldn't mind going someplace warmer, just because I like warmer weather more than cold.

i wouldnt.it wouldnt be the same being away from home.in a different place especially if its a place with hot weather.not me but if i had to it would be someplace that has snow like a nice mountain place that has cabins(of course they would have to be cabins that are furnished like a house)

For a warm location: i'd have to say NOO :)
But... my family and my boyfriends family are going insane every holiday season, actually ruining it for us :( (and that's a hard thing to do :P ) for example: on new years eve we were traveled between the house of my parents and the house of my boyfriends parents for 4 times! because they couldn't settle on who we were to spend it with :( it's really hard... so i was thinking maybe going to somewhere snowy like Scandinavia for Christmas, just spend it with my love.... so i can understand those who do it... is this a stupid idea???

Kerstig, I went through the same thing you did the first year I was married. Everybody wanted you to do this or do that. So what we did....right after New Year's, I told my Mom we would be at her house on Christmas Eve the next year and Christmas Day the year after that....if she wanted to eat at the same time, go right ahead but we were going to set a schedule for where we would be at and at which time (our families had the big meal and get together at the same time).
Fast forward a year........
Once we got to that time, we had to stick to it because people started asking us again....but it works. We are happy and everyone knows when we are coming. They actually worked it out and everything is great!
Go somewhere on Christmas? NOPE. I'm always going to be home for the holidays. Just how I think it was intended to be.

I would NEVER do that. I would rather spend Christmas alone at home than on some vacation with alot of people. My wife tells me of a year where her and her family went to Disney World for Christmas. Traveled on Dec 23 and was there on Christmas Eve through New Years. I love Disney World as much as the next person, but not at Chrsitmas.
