I was wondering how many of you get your trees from farmers or Christmas tree farms? My family has gotten our tree from the farmer's market since before I can remember, but my husband and I are thinking of switching it up this year by going to a tree farm to cut down our own tree. The only issue I have with cutting down my own tree is my fear of replaying the squirrel scene from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and the fact that the trees that they grow in Georgia tree farms don't seem to be the "traditional" trees. My husband passes by the tree farm every day on his way to work.

I'm not sure what they're called, but they don't look like fraiser furs and blue spruces...not sure if they smell like them either and I am BIG on Christmas tree smell. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Have you ever had one of the "Georgia" trees I'm referring to? I wish I had a picture or something...(Some Googling later)...It looks like most of the farms in my area grow Leyland Cypress and Carolina Sapphire trees. Anyone have any experience with these types of trees? Do they hold ornaments well? Do they smell good?

P.S.--

Thank you so much for my platinum gift (whoever you may be, fabulous benefactor!) You rock!

I truly appreciate it. I meant to say thank you sooner, but you know how distracted I've been lately :-(

Thank you thank you thank you! <3

I live in a town that had 4 tree farms as of 10 years ago, and before we went artificial we went to a couple of them for 4 years and cut our own, sadly only 1 tree farm remains now. I miss doing it, but when the boys get a bit older we will do it so they can have the experience the art of finding and cutting the perfect Christmas tree.

:rudolph:At one time, my husband would cut a real tree down every year, but he bought an artifical tree the year before we got married. That tre lastd eleven years, and this past yesr, we bought a pre lit one that we'll put up for the first time this Christmas.

My husband and my dad go together to a tree farm every year. Our oldest son (who will be almost 3) will go with them this year. We went to our local "urban farm" when we lived in the city to get a tiny tree the past few years... can't wait to get a HUGE tree this year to fill my big house!!!!

I have to admit, going to the tree farm is pretty fun. Especially with the carnival lights and all. I like to go early evening, I know its harder to see but its so much fun that way. My parents have a fake tree, its nice!! But...def no tree lot. There is such negative and positive downsides to the whole situation. So to remedy one, I may just get a live wreath from the tree lot...just for fun. Perhaps when my niece is a few years older we can go to a tree lot so she can experience it.
