View Full Version : ANNOUNCEMENT OF MAJOR IMPORT!

elfworks
11-08-2006, 09:18 AM
a board that i used to belong to, and a board i now belong to, started doing member swaps about 10 years ago. we did goodie basket swaps and ornament swaps at xmas. fall swaps on vernal equi. easter basket swaps etc....
i mentioned these swaps to a couple of people here, in passing, and enthusiasm was rampant!!

so... who wants to participate in an ornament swap?

how it works is this way: everyone who thinks they are interested will say so here. i will then put all those names in a hat and draw two at a time. those ppl are paired up. i will post all pairings. pairs are responsible for exchanging personal info. if someone drops the ball, they are out and a new partner will be assigned. (anyone willing to pick up an extra partner in case of jerkiness, please let me know) there is no $$ limit, but, dont go out and spend a $100!! be cool. use your heads. it can be homemade or storebought. it can be specific to where youre from or, if youve noticed your partner mention a theme for their tree, you can go that way. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO. THIS IS NOT A DIFFICULT THING.

i will accept names from now til TEN DAYS FROM NOW.

enrollment ends SATURDAY NOVENBER 18.

i will post names on SUNDAY NOVEMBER 19.

THIS IS THE ONLY RULE: YOU MUST MAIL YOUR ORNAMENT TO YOUR PARTNER BY FRIDAY DECEMBER 1.

ok.

any questions?

WHO WANTS TO PLAY??

xo

elfworks
11-08-2006, 09:16 PM
I'm interested but I dunno how to ship an ornament...lol.

you buy or make an ornament you want to send to your partner. you pick a box of the appropriate size. you wrap the ornament in bubble wrap or you fill the box with peanuts or excellsior and put the ornament in the box. you seal the box then address it to your partner. then you go to the post office and pay the man. if it is very fragile, mark the box FRAGILE HANDLE WITH CARE.

mrshamm
11-08-2006, 09:24 PM
Do you get the box from the Post office? Sorry, I've never mailed anything larger than a bill...lol.

Edited because I forgot to say, I'm in.

elfworks
11-08-2006, 09:29 PM
i cant decide if youre yanking my chain or not!

in case youre not, you get the box at the post office or in your closet or at the ups store or the container store or those mailbox etc places.

mrshamm
11-08-2006, 09:33 PM
ok, I'm in. And, no, I wasn't yanking your chain. I seriously had No idea how to ship anything that couldn't fit in a normal envelope.

We have thoroughly hijacked yet another topic and turned it into a discussion of eggnog. I believe we could hijack a 9-1-1 call and before we were done the biggest problem would be a lack of nog and not the fire or heart attack. 8)

If you match us up can we ask for a re-draw? Considering we have similar taste and buy almost the same stuff even though we are miles apart we would probably both pick out the same ornie to send to each other!!!! :D

How does one go about shipping something to the Netherlands? How do you like that? Even my packages aren't well traveled. Is it expensive?

HollyJells
11-15-2006, 12:22 AM
I will be sending 2 ornaments plus a card. One ornament will be made by ME and the other will be store bought. LOL Like i said the other day, i have a box of brand new never opened ones that i ended up not using and I will do the family name on the homemade ornament so whoever is drawn for me will have to give me their last name so I can do the ornament. I now have some free time on my hands (the calm before college finals) and I have been busy with making ornaments for my family

marekkane
11-15-2006, 12:58 AM
It shouldn't be too expensive. If it's a small item you can just wrap it well and send it the slow way. I know from Canada a small package ( toddler's shoe box size) that doesn't weigh much cost $6.95 Canadian.

dominick
11-15-2006, 01:19 AM
I wonder how much it would cost from our fine US postal service (sarcasm). I just mailed an envelope one state over and it cost nearly $5. I can't imagine how much they'd charge to mail to another hemisphere.

marekkane
11-15-2006, 03:59 AM
Heh, well I know to mail back to Maryland a smallish envelope/package costs me €4.90. Not too bad, and they didn't lose it so I considered that my personal Christmas gift from TNT post.

But there are plenty of Delft ornaments around here and such, and even a huge Christmas store (link) (http://www.christmas-palace.com/intro_engels.htm). I shall have fun browsing.

:)

Ervserver
11-15-2006, 08:34 AM
The key is packing it well otherwise it don't matter how much you spent for shipping

GingerMel
11-15-2006, 08:40 AM
No kidding.

I mailed something to Finland once and it wasn't that expensive. I remember thinking it was going to be a nightmare and it wasn't that bad.
