In the run-up to Christmas, Macy’s is pulling an all-nighter at all its stores in the region. The flagship department store in Manhattan’s Herald Square and seven area branches will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the four-day stretch before Christmas. The shop-til-you-drop-a-thon begins at 7 a.m. Friday and lasts [...]

I hear things at Macys have been just brutal for the last five years or so. I've got a guy who works for me out in Reno who also works for Macys. That's his regular job. He quit there the other day and now only works for me part time. Says he just couldn't take it anymore.

Kind of a shame since their employees don't benefit from this. I really don't think it's neccessary to stay open like this. Gosh what do they think that these people don't have family and other things to do. It bothers me to hear this and how Macy's is with their employees. I had no clue and never have heard this on the news, internet etc.. I don't know anyone who works there personally. But it makes me think twice now about shopping there again.

:hi:Kmart has done the same thing in past years, but I don't know if they still do.

What is Macy's like to shop/work? I've never been obviously.

:tree:Macy's is a very nice, but expensive store. You're better off shopping there when there is a sale. You do save a ton of money though, because they usually have discount coupons in their sales flyer. They also offer a charge card.

I suppose it's a lot like our Harrods in London?

I thought K-Mart was bankrupt. (And, of course, as we all well know, all businesses are closed, I repeat CLOSED, on Christmas Day; as nobody ever works on that day.)

Walmart started the ball rolling and now other stores are also jumping in. Seems to me it would be more of a shop lifters paradise with all those sleepy clerks not awake enough to notice.

I've never been in a Macy's store. I'd like to see less of the 24 hour stores...but I do see a need for those who work shifts other than 1st shift.

Kmart has been out of bankrupsey for quite a while now. Not all the stores closed . There are still Kmart stores here in CT. By Kmart being open 24 hours, it's usually this last weekend before Christmas, starting Friday and staying open right through Christmas Eve closing at whatever time they close.

I don't know about anyone else but i feel it's not much of a holiday when shops are open constantly. When I was younger my parents would stock up on food etc because at the time shops didn't open for days after xmas, plus we use to have bad winters then. We now have a supermarket that's open 24 hrs but that was unheard of 20 odd years ago. I wish it was still like those days because it felt more like christmas.

I agree. Stores are even open here on Sunday, and holidays. I think it's terrible. People got along just fine when stores were closed on Sunday and holidays. If that law was never passed, Sunday would still be a "family day", and holidays could be spent with family, or any way you wanted to.
