what are the little things that make life great for you, nothing major, just little things that are special and make you smile?

here are some of mine:

*when my house is lovely and clean and i light my vanilla scented candles

*the feeling that christmas is coming

*taking my young cousins to the cinema on halloween to watch a creepy
film and eat lot's of popcorn

* a cold, crisp winter morning

* a night in with a takeaway and a good film

* my MIL's roast dinners

* my mum's homecooked dinners

What a great idea for a thread!! Let's see......

Clean fresh sheets dried on the line

Discovering a new author with a complete series of books I have yet to read

Watermelon

A bubble bath and a glass of wine after a really grim day

Getting Christmas cards

Having my 17 year old son still want to (occasionally!) stay in and watch a dvd with me!!

Watching my dogs run along the beach

Going to empty the dishwasher to find someone has beaten me to it

Vampire movies

Cinnamon toast and hot chocolate

That's what comes to mind just now, but I'll keep popping back with whatever made me smile next...!!

I love this idea. Here are some things that come to mind right now:

1. My husband's omlettes. YUM!

2. Watching the birds at my bird feeder.

3. Getting the mail and finding NO BILLS in it.

4. Playing ball with my dog, Buddy.

5. Chocolate pudding pie.

There's more but I'm going to have to think on it.

A few of my little things ...

when the Robins return in the spring

when the bumble bee landed on my shoulder in early November and I wasn't startled I just whispered, "you better take cover, winter is coming"

the giggle of children at play

watching my grandchildren eat cherry tomatoes and healthy foods with the same excitement that I used to display for Chocolate Turtles and sponge toffee

the smell of pine needles (or Scotch Tape)

when my husband surprises me and has the Christmas lights turned on when I get home from work

when my cat calls me "mermama" it sure sounds like "mama" to me

staying awake on Christmas Eve listening for the sound of sleigh bells

hearing the news that someone I know is expecting a baby

the fragrance of lilac trees, peonies, azaleas, begonias, etc.

when I see a parent stop and explain the "why of things" to their curious toddlers or preschoolers

when the phone rings or I get an email from someone I was just thinking about

the sound of all the backyard birds in the morning (not the ravens)

the creek gurgling

thunder

leaves rustling making them sound like waves on the ocean

when I have cool Christmas dreams about people I've never met

when my burger or sub is built in the exact order I want

the sound of horse hooves clip-clopping along and their neigh of joy

touching Echo the Dolphin and doing tricks with him at MarineLand

 I better stop for now, you can only type so much and then the message pops up that you've typed too much. Yikes! Only happened once to me, if you can believe it.

Going to sleep on clean sheets fresh off the line (they smell like sunshine)

great idea of a thread. Here are a few of my favorite things (very clever way to put it, Irishgirl) :

- Taking a walk with my dog in my neighborhood in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve, (technically Christmas morning) knowing that everyone else in is sound asleep anticipating a bright Christmas morning.

- Also walking in my neighborhood and looking at everyone's Christmas lights.

- Looking up at an airplane flying in the air a few days before Christmas and knowing that the passengers on board are flying home to see loved ones, perhaps for the first time in many years...and many wonderful memories will be created for those families.

- Watching It's a Wonderful Life on tv every year and knowing that everyone else in the nation is watching the same thing.

- my son jumping pouncing on me in the morning, though being statled intially after a sound sleep isn't the most enduring feeling.

- my wife and son laughing together. That is perhaps the most beautiful sound in the world.

- walking on the beach in the fall. I used to be able to walk for miles on the Ocean City boardwalk. Also hearing the sound of seagulls, though they can be savages if you have food.

- There is a picture that I have that always brings me to a place of serenity. I have to share it with you. I believe it was an actual photograph at one point...if I could ever find a place like that I'd love to stay there for awhile. Here is a link to what the picture looks like. I have it hanging on my wall and you can find it at a Christian book store (that is where I purchased mine). http://www.pgrahamdunn.com/product_image.php?imageid=3409 (http://www.pgrahamdunn.com/product_image.php?imageid=3409)

I thought I was the only one who did that! cheesy

I think this is a great idea for a thread and with the way things have been going for me lately, it's nice to have a reason to pause and remember the good things.

Here's my list:

1. Walking into our apartment all clean and shining on a nice spring day with the windows open...the whole place smells so clean and fresh.

2. The way my nephews run to greet me when I go visit them. There's just nothing like four little boys under the age of five who are tripping over themselves to be the first to give you a hug!

3. Feeling my DH kiss my forehead in the middle of the night when he thinks I'm sleeping.

4. The smell of the air in autumn

5. Walking through piles of fallen leaves in the fall

6. Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

7. In the winter, when the days are short, coming home in the near dark to see the curtains open and all the lights blazing...it's perfect welcome home.

8. The sound of cicada's and crickets at dusk in the summertime.

9. Hearing one of my favorite old songs on the radio

10. Driving home from the in-laws on Christmas Eve...the world is so silent with snow all around...it really is magical.

That's all I can think of right now but I'll be back...after writing this list I feel better than I have in weeks!

Mmmmmm......still thinking but will list a few.

-Music

-hubby coming home (love the sound of the garage door opening when he does come home....it's right below where I "chat" from)

-a roast cooking in the oven (Yum!)

-anything being grilled on the grill---ANYTHING!!!

-a clean utensil when I want it

-toilet paper on the roll

-the quiet evening

-laughter

-my daily splash of Bath & Body Works body splash (this was the first thing that came to mind)

-unexpected fun mail or email

-fresh air flowing through the house

-chocolate

-childrens' hugs (I missed those a lot this past year--they weren't huggers.)

-looking at pictures/videos from the past

-Christmas songs--especially the kind I can sing along with

-Christmas decorations

-Christmas lights

-putting up the Christmas decorations

-looking at the few decorations that I have by my computer monitor---it doesn't stand out but it's my daily reminder

-children opening gifts

-memories of past holidays (like the year when I was 17 and bought everyone a squirt gun---after sitting for a moment after opening them, everyone took off in different directions to the water sources. LOL That's one of my fondest memories!)

Great thread!! :)

Coming to this website anytime of the year & being able to find people who love Christmas as much as me, and being able to find something on the website at any given time that gives you the *warm Christmas fuzzies* :-D – now that’s cool!

When I drive by my aunts house in the spring & see that her magnolia tree is starting to bloom. I always know spring is coming then!!

When I see the sign at the end of our road for Apple Cider in the fall at the neighbors Orchard. Mmmm, mmmm

Candles burning

Leaves changing colors / crunching under your feet

Trees budding out in the spring

The sunset

The sunrise

Big Fluffy Clouds

The 1st snow of the year ~ watching it snow from inside at home w/ candles burning

Having dinner outside

Clothes/sheets/towels dried on the line

Christmas open houses

Watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade & then Miracle on 34th Street after

Staying up til wee hours of the morning talking to an old friend/friends

A cloudy day (just every now & then...)

Seeing the sun & feeling it's warmth after a long winter

Coffee on a crisp fall morning (coffee is good every morning, but even better in the fall)

Watching Buckeye Football

I agree w/ Jana...Warm Fuzzy Socks!

When my niece(s) calls & want to watch a movie or go out to eat

Planting vegetable seeds in February & watching them sprout

Planting & harvesting the garden & eating the 1st ripe tomato right out in the garden…all warm, dirty, juicy & delicious! Lol!

When we are at the garden (which is at my parents house) & my parents come out to “watch” & the next thing you know, the neighbors who live in the next 2 houses (who are all in their mid 70’s to early 80’s) are all over talking gardening….now they are some wise folks! Those times make great memories!

Capturing the perfect picture (Thank God for digital cameras...)

Making/eating Sunday breakfast with our neighbors

A sunset cruise on our pontoon

Bonfires

Snuggling with my hubby

Candy Day (making Christmas candy with all my sisters/sil at my Moms)

Movie night...cuddling up in a blanket, lights low (or off) ~ watching a good movie

Finding the perfect gift

Buffalo wings & football

Having the whole family "home for Christmas" (at my parents)

Thanksgiving feast (all the wonderful smells & delicious fall foods)

Being greeted at the door by your dog who is ALWAYS happy to see you!

Waking up early & having extra time in the morning to sit & read, crochet, or surf the net while having a cup of coffee & everything is so quiet!

I know there are many, many more but I better stop….I'm at work! Lol!! I could go on & on….

This post is lovely, I've enjoyed reading it

Some of my favourite things are:

Waking up really early on a morning just laying in bed all warm and cosy and hearing the birds singing outside

Long car journeys! I live in yorkshire so theres lots of lovely country side around us, I love how picturesque (did i spell that right?) it looks

Spending time with my mum. Shes probably my best friend even though we argue I love her unconditionally :)

Coming home from school and my nephew greeting me with a big smile and a big "****OOOOOO AUNTY NOO NOO:D"

Going downstairs first thing on a morning and my puppy jumping up and down because shes so happy to see me

Waiting for a bus in autum when its really sunny and theres heat from the sun, the sky all blue but theres a crisp cool wind

Watching strictly come dancing - Okay sounds weird but it really puts me in the christmas mood! After a big cooked dinner with all my family and we just sit round and watch it. && No offence guys but its soo much better than dancing with the stars! Lol after all we did start it :P:P

With my grandad and him telling the worse jokes ever, and how he looks at my grandma even after nearly 50 years of marriage

&&& being with my best friend, in silence watching tv knowing we don't need to talk to enjoy each others company, or making up a new private joke we just laugh at, with those high pitch laughs we only use around each other, for months or years after making it extra special.

Theres more but these are some of the most special little things

This is fun!
Here's some of my favorite things (some may sound strange):

The smell of the dried leaves in the air in the fall.

When department stores put their Christmas decorations up in Sept. I love to go and just hang out in the department even if I don't buy anything. Just to be around all that Christmas stuff makes me smile.

The sound of the waves crashing onto the beach and the smell of the salty air.

Getting off the plane in Hawaii. The obvious reason is because I'm in Hawaii but, being there gives me an overwhelming feeling of peace just like I feel during Christmas.

One of my absolute favorite things is when it snows really, really bad to the point that the roads are to bad to drive on. As long as I don't have to go anywhere it can do whatever it wants outside!

I also love the sound of tires spinning in the snow when someone gets stuck. Not mine of course, but when I all tucked into bed and someone is trying to get up the hill and their tires are spinning. I don't know why but, I love that. I guess because I know it's bad out and I'm all snuggly warm in my bed. I told you some of them are strange!

When my dog, Maggie, greets me at the door!

When I see my husband driving the firetruck going to a call. I think he looks sexy, all in command and everything.

When my husband comes home safe and sound after a fire call!

When my house is all nice and clean. I like to light candles and curl up on the sofa.

The smell of my candles in the house, apple spice, apple jack, baked apple pie or anything that has a warm scent to it I just love.

The smell of dinner cooking on Thanksgiving.

My family coming over for Thanksgiving dinner and hanging out for the night.

When the radio stations start playing 24 hour Christmas music.

Wrapping Christmas gifts has been a favorite thing of mine to do since I was about 12.

Decorating for the holidays.

Getting the tv schedule for upcoming Christmas shows/specials.

Christmas shopping with all of the crowds and the hustle and bustle.

Being off of work with pay for the holidays.

Getting on the scale and finding that I lost weight!

When my Aunt Ruth comes home for a visit. She lives in California and I love and miss her very much. I wish she lived closer.

The smell of fabric softener from someone's dryer vent blowing into the outside air.

When summer is over! I hate to be hot and I love the fall and winter months! The only exception I'll make to being hot is if I'm on vacation somewhere warm. Other than that, let me be cold!

When my boss takes a day off from work! It's such a nice break.

And finally, decorating for Christmas for other people. My brother, mom and the fire dept. let me decorate for them. I love it because I do whatever I want to do! It really gets me in the spirit.

The fact that my 13-year old daughter still wants to hold my hand in public and will still kiss me hello, goodbye, good night, and good morning, even when her friends are over.

The fact that my son replies, "Love you more" every time I tell him I love him (he's 15).

Having my daily journal up-to-date.

When my husband calls me from work because he's wondering what I'm up to.

Taking thousands (literally) of pictures every month of the kids, nature, family, etc. - I just love digital cameras!

The smell of fresh mincemeat or plum pudding filling my kitchen.

Listening to Christmas music all year long whenever I'm so inclined.

Coming home from work on Friday afternoon and my kids telling me that they are so glad it's the weekend and I don't have to go work tomorrow.

Warm double chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the oven.

Puppy kisses from my parents new black yorkie puppy. They're not really kisses -- more like love bites.

Watching SciFi movies all day Saturday with my son.
Watching Christmas specials all year with my daughter.

Everyone is right, I could go on and on. What a wonderful thread. It really helps put everything in perspective.

These are all wonderful, thank you so much for sharing all of your favorite little things. I read them all and love majority of them!!

I too love freshly washed sheets! Especially my fleece sheets, they are SO warm and SO soft.

I love scented candles, especially Christmas ones.

Hot chocolate with whipped cream!

The smell of fall in the air.

Crunchy leaves under my shoes and the all the fall colors.

A cool winter day with a nice warm sweater or jacket.

A warm fire in winter.

Putting up xmas lights and the xmas tree on Thanksgiving. The smell of turkey with the tree lit is just wonderful.

Fresh socks. Fresh pajamas.

Snuggling and watching tv or a movie.

Hugs from my almost two year old niece.

Taking out the Halloween and Christmas decorations.

Christmas music whenever I want. Especially the classics, or my favs, they make me smile and feel warm inside.

Relaxing at home and doing nothing!

The sight of snow! I love the snow. I don't live in it but live near it. I think snow and Christmas go together and hopefully someday I can have a white christmas.
