Angels Of MMC

This past Sunday, September 12, was my birthday. I know some of you remember from a previous blog I had written that I was very sad. I really did not have many good expectations for that day. I was thankfully surprised. I logged on to work that morning and on a break decided to check the forums of MMC. WOW. That is all I can say. I went to the Christmas Countdown thread and there Maureen had started a thread called "Happy Birthday Caninemom3". That in and of itself started tears rolling down my cheeks. To think that someone I have never met thought it was important to recognize my birthday was more than I could bear. As I clicked on the thread there were already several birthday wishes for me. Needles to say I was quite weepy in a good way throughout that day. Every time I looked, there were more and more birthday wishes from the members here on MMC. You are all SO AMAZING !!

Because of all of you, my sadness turned into hopefulness. Because of all of you I felt...

Who Can We Look Up To?

Watching the world today is just a window into selfishness I wish my children couldn't see. The world is so me, me, me, I worry about who my kids have to look up to as there heroes and role models. I know as a parent the perfect role model would be my wife and I but if you look through the eyes of a child they see the football player, the movie star, Optimus Prime. When I was growing up I had my role models, and most were baseball players, and hockey players. The first one I remember was Jim Rice of the Boston Red Sox, he was my favorite player when I was a little kid, I couldn't wait to see him hit, and I finally got to see him play in person in 1987 at 12 years old at Fenway Park against the Baltimore Orioles the first ball that was hit to him he injured his knee and that was that. My father told me stories about how strong Jim Rice was, and how he went into the stands and picked up a kid that got a foul ball off the temple and ran him through the Red Sox locker room, years later I heard...

Just Another Day

I must be the weirdest person on the face of this earth. It is still September 11 and my birthday is tomorrow, September 12, which is making me quite sad. I don't know if anyone else has ever experienced feelings like this. I don't know why I am so sad. It is not that I expected a big party with lots of gifts, etc. I pretty much already knew/know how my birthday will go. My dear sister came to visit me today, Saturday, and we went to lunch and such. But that is going to be about it. Tomorrow I work so the celbration is already over. I don't know, maybe I just have the sulks.

I always seem to have such a glum outlook on things. Though I am quite blessed, I tend to focus not on all the good things in my life but instead on the bad things. For me it is much easier to be sad than happy at least these days. I have always been like this to a degree and even more so as I am getting closer to the end of my 50s.

I do recall a time though when David was still here that...

Terrorism And Tolerance

As I sit here this morning, September 11, 2010, I too remember that horrible day 9 years ago. The day the twin towers as well as the pentagon were attacked. I was working 2 jobs at the time, a full time one at the hospital just down the street and one here at home transcribing. I awoke that morning really tired, as I had just worked afternoons the day before at the hospital just before the Fedex man brought my tape to be transcribed. I had not turned on the TV as I am not a big TV fan but as I spoke with the Fedex man who delivered my tapes every day for my home job, he told me. "There are airplanes attacking buildings.....you had better turn on the news......" I did so. I can still feel the terror, the panic, the extreme sadness wash over me. All those people. All those passengers. Gone. I did not know what to do. I thought it was the end of the world. I tuned in just in time to see the second tower being hit. My dear God, why ?? As I like everyone else struggled through the...
