Self Esteem

Posted 02-01-2013 at 10:02 PM by caninemom3

In the last 58 years I have learned many things: Money is not everything (though I have never had money), time goes faster with each year, loved ones are precious and can be gone in an instant as well as health, giving is more important than receiving. The one thing I have not even begun to fathom is how to love myself.

When I was a young girl I was bullied by other kids who made fun of me for my looks as well as my lack of ability to be able to dress in the most up to date fashions. I was extremely backward and shy and timid. When I looked in the mirror in those days what I saw was not a person of worth for a mirror can only reflect the external to an extent.

As I have gotten older the situation was not helped when I began working at one of the local hospitals in the medical records department as a transcriptionist. My supervisor was a pretty lady with blonde hair and incredibly long fingernails (how DID she type with those nails ?) who was also a minister's...

Forgotten Treasures

A few days ago I was feeling nostalgic for the "old days" so I decided to go into the small room where all the Christmas things are stored and where there is also an an old fashioned vanity, probably from the 1930's which was my former mother-in-law's. In its drawers are stored a good part of memories from my youth both good and bad. As there is a Christmas tree in that room, beautiful and flocked and always there to plug in when I get really lonesome for Christmas, I turned it on and sat down in front of the vanity and started the journey through my collected memories.

At first I came across diaries I had written when in my early teens and I must say it gave the term "drama queen" whole new meaning but then I was just 15 or younger. There were letters my youngest older brother had written me at a time when he was down on his luck and I was the only contact he had with family. There were plenty of magazines from the 1990s and 1980s and earlier, plenty...

Here Come The Demons

Christmas is once again over. The build-up was as amazing as ever. On Thanksgiving I put up the tree and we had our traditional Thanksgiving feast, my husband and I and our furkids. On December 1, brimming with excitement as it was both my sister's birthday AND the day she and I put up her tree, I went to my sister's home for the coming celebrations of the day.

When my sister and I are together we are like little kids, both completely oblivious to what is going on around and just focused on each other and our own world. We "ooh and ah" at lights, decorations, carols, and everything at Christmastime. It was an amazing day. Later in the afternoon on December 1 my dear brother-in-law, who is really more of a brother than anything, took us to dinner, which is a custom when I go to their house to help decorate. Then back again to their house for more sister fun. When we were finished we stood back and looked very proudly at the beautiful tree we created and congratulated...

A Message From Max

Posted 12-21-2012 at 05:46 AM by caninemom3

This is a message from Rev. Max Lucado, a man I very much respect and find inspiration from. I thought it was important to share his thoughts as we approach Christmas this year and include this as part of my blog xo

Some of the saddest words on earth are: “We don’t have room for you.”
Jesus knew the sound of those words. He was still in Mary’s womb when the innkeeper said, “We don’t have room for you.” (Luke 2:7)
And when he was hung on the cross, wasn’t the message one of utter rejection? “We don’t have room for you in our world.”
Even today Jesus is given the same treatment. He goes from heart to heart, asking if he might enter. Every so often, he’s welcomed. Someone throws open the door of his or her heart and invites him to stay. And to that person Jesus gives this great promise: “In my Father’s house are many rooms.” (John 14:2)
What a delightful promise he makes us! We make room for him in our hearts….And he makes room for...

Merry Christmas Mom And Dad

Posted 12-18-2012 at 01:37 PM by caninemom3

Hi mom and dad. It's just me, your youngest. It is Christmas Season once again on Earth, but I am sure you know that. Of course with all the joy of Christmas Season comes a longing to see you both again. You both taught me about Christmas when I was just a baby. Mom, you taught me about Jesus and his birth and how to make cookies and how to decorate them but most important of all you taught me how to have FUN. You taught me that Christmas has many sides among them decorating, singing carols and being with family in addition to the sacred side of Christmas. You taught me how Jesus was born and how He loves us no matter what. When I asked you in my childish way one Autumn if God sewed the leaves back on the trees with a needle and thread you very patiently answered, "Yes, that is what God does." You read to me for hours on end and showed me pictures of such wondrous things in life as I sat on your lap. You gave me the love of reading too.

Dad you taught me how to...
