My Home made mac and cheese
 
My Home made mac and cheese

1 cups Milk (I use fat free milk)
3 tbsp butter
tsp salt
tsp black pepper
1 lb sliced American cheese
2 cups shredded Italian cheeses (mozzarella, provolone, parmesan cheeses)
1 box of noodles

Boil noodles until andante. **
In a sauce pan melt butter, add milk and bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and add salt, pepper. Mix well, slowly add the cheeses, stirring until melted and the sauce is smooth. You can add more milk if the cheese is too thick. Remove from heat. Place the noodles in a large pot and pour cheese over noodles, stir until noodles are well coated.


Placed in a greased 13X9 in pan.
For a crunching topping mix 1 cup bread crumbs, 1 tbsp melted butter and cup parmesan cheese. Sprinkle on top of cheese and bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.



**Crock pot method. Boil noodles for of the recommended cooking time, drain and place in crock pot.
Pour cheese over noodles and stir until noodles are well coated. Turn crock pot on low and cook for 3 hours, stirring occasionally. If you notice the cheese becoming too thick slowly add more milk until the right constituency is reached.

I started using the crockpot for this recipe a few Christmases ago. It made things so much easier.

For those outside North America, Crock-Pot is the trademark for a type of slow cooker.

One problem with cooking any kind of pasta in a slow cooker is that the texture usually turns to mush over a long cooking time (unless that's the texture you want).

I am going to try this recipe. Hubby and I don't like the box mac and cheese, but my grandchildren like it. I'm curious to see if they like this. I know hubby and I will like it.
