Christmas Decorating Plans 2010

Hi there,

I was just curious if you guys have any plans for different decorations this year? Is there something you did last year that you would like to do differently?

I think this year I am going to get my own little mini tree to decorate. I also learned how to make some pretty glitter ornaments, so I am going to do that this year too!

I also have decided to go to my first tree lighting ceremony since I have never been to one. Thats right, NEVER been to one...crazzzzzy huh?

What are you all going to do different this year?

I am slowly getting my thoughts and plans together for decorating. I will be switching from multi-colored lights outside to white lights outside, my wife wants to see what it looks like. The tree in our living room is going to be positioned on a different wall because we got new furniture, and I plan to put some bubble lights on it for the first time, (since I was a kid) thats as far as I have gotten thus far. My small porch bugs me because I want to do something special on that but I am stuck and have been stuck on what to do with it for 1.5 years now. I will figure something out sooner or later.

My 8 yr old daughter tells me the other day that she wants to decorate more inside the house. She wants more lights up in her room and more light and garland through out the house.

Sometime this summer, on the days where it is too hot to do anything outside we are going to make Christmas ornaments. Some to keep and use and others to used as gifts.

xmas365 - can you post a photo of your porch? Perhaps some of us can help ya out with some ideas to get you started :) I think white lights is very clean, very elegant. Just depends on the person. I like to mix it up - sometimes color, sometime white lights.

Minta - You could def do more garlands through the house fairly inexpensivly. I have purchased the "cheaper" green garland before and wrapped TWO togther to make it look more "full." I also wired on some pinecones, berries etc and added the lights to them. You can add your own stuff to them too like ornaments, christmas flowers etc.

You will love it!

I did go to a garage sale a few weeks ago and bought a wooden train sign to put out in our yard this year. The man we bought it from said he bought it in the 70's. I have not decided what else to add this year. I really need to stop buying stuff because I never have enough room to get it all out. Lol! My attic is full, my hall closet is stacked to the top and the spare bedroom has a lot in there. I do rotate at least and every other year I put different things out.

That sounds wonderful. A vintage train set?! Once you set it up, please take photos!

I hear you about no space. We went through all our christmas stuff and got rid/donated alot of things we just didn't use anymore or were broken and never repaired. It was sitting for years, so we decided it was time to clean it up. We got storage bins and lots of cool storage zip ups for fragile stuff only because my parents had NO room anymore. The organizing helped but....there is still alot of stuff.

I like that you change it up each year. My mom and I like to spice things up by changing it around, adding things etc. I like to see new decorations or updated ideas we had the previous year.

In 2008 the xmas bill was too high, so we decided to do mostly LED's, we saved so much money. I recently discovered at christmas time, there are (whats called) WARM WHITE dome LED lights, and they look VERY similar (in color) to regular christmas lights. I guess they also have regular warm white led christmas lights (non dome shape). The reason I didn't like the dome shape was because some of the lights were brighter than others and it was so bright at different angles. I think I am going to try the regular old christmas lights in warm white and see if they are any better. Personally, I prefer the regular white lights on my tree.

The only thing I never change is the theme of my main Christmas Tree. It is full of memories. Some ornaments from my childhood, from my kids growing up and now adding ornaments from my grandchildren. We also buy a new family ornament each year to add to it.

They have improved the LED lights, which I am glad. I did not like them when they first came out. I still don't own any LED but may invest in them sometime soon.

I didn't like them either. I am hoping they can really recreate the old fashioned lights we have come to love. Like led c7/c9 light blubs with the same brightness and look as well as regular christmas lights. That would be great! I recently read an article somewhere that some companies are working on doing just that...so heres hoping.

I love your tradition of buying a new ornament each year, thats a good idea!

We are seriously considering doing an all homemade ornaments Christmas tree this year. We were going to do it in 2009, but didn't get around to it so we are hoping to try it in 2010. Our plan was to take one day a month this year to make ornaments, but now that it's April, we are about 4 months behind. (: I like the idea of all homemade ornaments....popcorn and cranberries, gingerbread ornaments, salt dough ornaments, cinnamon applesauce ornaments, craft ornaments, etc.

We also got LEDs on clearance this year and we will probably put those on our house instead of the lights we usuall use.

I need to update a few things this year.A new tree skirt, garlands, bulbs.
I want to buy a new fuller christmas tree thats pre-lit.I have one but its too skinny.plus my kids white tree would not light up even when I bought new bulbs for it.so I'd like to give them the skinny tree and get a taller, fuller one for the parlor.
Kids want new more older ornies for their tree, which I knew was comming.
I've been looking on ebay for shiny bright ornies,I love them in bowls around the house.the ones with "snow" scenes are so pretty.
