Christmas Tune or Not? - You Decide!

Christmas Tune or Not? - You Decide!

Okay Friends and Neighbors! I need your input! (Well, I always need your input!) I am gathering a playlist for a future 'Mistletoe Mix' for Merry Christmas Radio.

This show will be a little different in that I want to play two types of tunes:

1- Tunes that mention something Christmas related but are not of themselves Christmas songs. Exampe: "Just Because" - Carl Perkins. Santa Claus is mentioned seven(?) times but the song is not at all about Christmas.

2- Tunes that are played at Christmastime but do not mention Christmas specifically. Of course the obvious stand out here is "Jingle Bells".

Category Two will undoubtedly receive the most attention so I'm counting on the true musicologists (you know who you are) to balance out the show with Category One tunes! I would like to alternate the tune types in each song set. Feel free to suggest a tune from each!

To get us started, here are two (one from each catagory) that I will play:

"Just Because" - probably a version I have by Paul McCartney.

"My Favorite Things" - John Coletrane (one of my all time favorite tunes in general.)

Christmas Tune, Or Not? - You Decide! Coming to MCR in April or May 2011 (I hope).

Let It Snow?

Just talks about snowing, no mention of Christmas but it feels Christmasy to me!

Category 1: "Shake Hands with Santa Claus" by Louis Prima. He's telling his girlfriend that he can get her anything she wants---has almost nothing to do with the real Santa Claus.

Tenuous connection with Category 1: "Sleigh Ride in July."

Category 1: Songs about toys and Toyland that don't specifically mention Christmas: "March of the Toys," "Toyland," "The Toy Trumpet," "The Marvelous Toy," etc.

We're having a blizzard in Massachusetts in your honor today. So for Category 2: "Baby, It's Cold Outside."

Wow you guys already stole all of my responses lol I will have to think about this...

It is strange though how songs like "let is snow" really seem to not be about Christmas but you automatically relate it to Christmas.. and I was listening to this as it was snowing last night cheesy

What about the song, Linus and Lucy? I hear that song and it makes me think of Christmas but I believe they play that tune in their other shows, Halloween and Thanksgiving one. No mention of Christmas in the title and it's all instrumental. Gotta love it though! cheesy
