Elf On The Shelf

I'm sorry if this isn't in the right spot. I haven't started a lot of threads even though I've been posting here for a number of years.

Have you guys heard about this? It's called Elf On The Shelf and it's a tradition for some families down here in TN. Apparently you take one of those old-timey looking elves and put him on a shelf in your child's room. The elf is the one who relays information about whether they've been naughty or nice to Santa. It's officially Christmas when the Elf comes out to sit on the shelf.

I just heard about it and thought the folks here at MMC might really like it.

I heard about it from my alumni newsletter. I'm not affiliated with this lady at all...just thought it was super cool. If I ever have children, I think I will definitely do this!

I've thought about buying one for my nieces and nephews - I think it's a neat tradition and, as I understand it, the Elf leaves a gift as well when he leaves with Santa Christmas Eve.

I thought it was pretty cute...now I just need the kids to practice the tradition with.

I did this a couple years with my girls, before they got too old for it. We had a lot of fun with this! I'm pretty sure I've seen other threads on this forum that talk about elves and Christmas magic, and they have lots of ideas for incorporating this tradition into your family.

A friend of mine is a teacher, and she does EotS with her students. The Elf moves about the classroom during the night, and the kids love to seek out where the Elf is the next day. Could be on the bookshelf, on a desk, under a table, in a cubby etc...

We have the elf & the book that goes with it. We're just about 45 minutes away from you. I know you can find the elf/book combo close by! Elf doesn't leave a gift for us, but he does move from place to place every night, watching DD's behavior.

I love the idea but the Elves don't seem to come to the UK! I might see if I can get one sent over.

I could get one for you and mail it out if you need me to.

I am not sure if I'd have to order it online or what. You might be able to have it ordered then shipped to me then I could just mail it to you...whatever helps!

Neat! Can we pick them up locally?
