what is your oldest decoration?

and what significance is it to you?

Mine is a star that my mom and dad brought to Canada with them when the immigrated here from Holland in 1954. It was bought in 1949. It is now so fragile I cannot use it, but do keep it in a special box. I would like one day get it in a clear case or something similar so it can be displayed again.

My favorite ornament is the one that my girls made when they were little. This ornament is over 18 years old.

Mine is my very first ornament given by a friend 23 years ago for my first Christmas in California (I lived there for four years). Ever since I've been given ornaments by many friends over the years and I now call my Christmas tree a "friendship tree". When I decorate it and hang each ornament I think of the friends that gave them to me.

:razz:I have several ornaments on my tree made by my step sons when they were little. They are so cute, and very special, especially since the boys aren't little anymore!

We've got a wooden 'father christmas' model that was given to my Mum when she was a baby in the early 50s when she and her parents visited some people in Belgium that My Grandfather had helped when he was serving over there in WWII. Special.

The very first ornament that I have and can call my own is from my 5th grade teacher. That was some 38 years ago. It's one of my treasures. But the oldest thing I have is a pair of salt and pepper shakers that my Grandma made. They are little Santa Clauses. They are too cute. I also have a Christmas bear and a Coke Santa from years past. I don't know how old they are. I know the Santa is from my childhood and he doesn't have the mini coke bottle anymore.

I have a church that lights up, it's not ceramic, not sure what it is made of but it glitters and I think it's from the 1950's. It was my parents decoration and everytime I get it out, I think of them and the wonderful Christmas they provided for me. I always smile when I look at the cord for my dad fixed it and I think I should buy a new cord but I always forget.

My oldest ornament is one that I made for my mother when I was in 2nd Grade. I'm 49 now, you do the math. But it is a pear. It is made from a light bulb covered in aluminum foil with a green fishnet covering to give it that green color and green paper leaves. I made it for her and she has kept it safe all these years. Now that she is gone, the memory of the thrill it gave her to put it on all of her trees in the past, is now a wonderful keepsake.

I have a few Decorations from the 50s and 60s that are always out when I start the house. My Color wheels are what really get attention at times though.
