Things Santa Wants You to Know About Your Christmas Tree
While the village of the North Pole celebrated a grand lighting ceremony of the grounds and exteriors of buildings on Thanksgiving night, most folks here wait until the first weekend of December to put up their Christmas trees. In fact, waiting this long to put up individual and family trees has become something of a tradition here at the North Pole.
The Christmas Tree, is more much, much more than a decoration, folks. In fact, it is a sacred symbol for true believers at Christmastime. A tree is a living thing. And that means it has a soul and it is that soul that gives it such a magical presence in a home.
So for folks here putting up their Christmas tree this weekend, there are certain rules and guidelines behind the traditions. And it has become our annual tradition through the updates to share with you a few suggestions in particular about the Christmas tree:
1. Give your tree a name – This is one of our most honored traditions here at the North Pole and every year it is a struggle to come up with an appropriate name. Since it is in your home it becomes a member of the family and it deserves a name.
2. All kinds of trees are acceptable – The area of the world you live in will dictate what kind of tree you get. The only hard and fast rule is that it is pointy at one end and round on the other.
3. Handmade decorations are best – Each tree each year has a unique personality. And that is why lots of handmade decorations for the tree are appropriate. It is okay to use traditional decorations on a tree from year to year.
4. A tree, once decorated, needs not only water but mostly it needs love. Sing around your tree, use it for a backdrop in your pictures, include it in every shining moment of the season. And yes, talk to your tree. It will, without fail, lift your spirits. No matter how ugly or misshapen a tree is, once decorated it becomes a part of you. It never fails to say Merry Christmas.
