Flood pictures

Here is a link to a picasa photo album filled with pictures that a friend of mine took of the flood in our town last week. Keep in mind that these pictures were taken either 16 hours before the water crested or the day after it had started going down...so the water, at it's highest was much higher than you'll see in these pics.

WOW, that's unbelieveable to see. yet you say that your mom's home was ok ? That's so good to hear. Is everything getting pretty much back to normal now ? How's the clean up going ?

Mom's house didn't get any water in it. I'll never know how as the water line would have seemed to indicate that the water would have been pouring in through the front door. We were so lucky in that regard. She did lose about $150 worth of food in her fridge and freezer.

However, mom's garage was completely flooded. Unfortunately, DH and I lost a lot in the garage. Our washer and dryer, our refrigerator, a bed, etc. that we had stored in there for when we get our own home (and out of this apartment) are all gone. :( We also lost some treasured family heirlooms and some of my and my sister's wedding keepsakes that were stored in the garage.

We spent the weekend trying to clean out the garage and salvage what we could. It's a labor intensive, slow going process but we're almost done. Then we have to tackle the yard which is filled with an unimaginable amount of debris.

And we're one of the relatively *minor* flood victims in town. The clean up all over town will take months and many people have lost everything including their homes. It's a sad situation for everyone and it will be a long time before we fully recover.

Sorry sunshine to hear that you lost all that stuff, especially all of your wedding keepsakes, I know that must of broke you heart when you realized they were destroyed. I can't inagine trying to get everything all cleaned up & seeing what you can save. I know when there was a fire in the place I was living I lost all my girls baby books & keepsakes. It really tore me up.
I hope everything goes better & you don't get anymore rain.

Goodness...this was terrible. Does it flood like this often where you live? I'm glad you are ok Sunshine. I could not imagine going through something like this.
