I have one brother and I had two loving parents. I am the youngest. There was to be another after me but he was stillborn at 6 months. So I know I have a little brother waiting for me in heaven. My brother and I are not close in relationship or distance. My parents always made sure we had a wonderful Christmas and they were all good for me except for one.
My husband is the oldest of 5 children, his parents have both passed away. His family is totally different than mine. The are very distance and not a lot of love and good memories. Christmas at their home was horrible.
I always wanted to have a sister so I was very happy to have two daughters and then a son. We now have 5 grandsons and 3 grandaughters.
Back in the early 1980's I helped my Aunt on my Dad's side start our family reunions which have been going strong ever since. We have the best time. And we do it yearly. We raise money by having an auction where everyone brings a wrapped gift and we bid on each gift. It's been amazing how well we have done which provides money for the next person in charge to buy what is needed. We also bring a covered dish. I usually do a picture display of our relatives and it's neat for the younger ones to see their grandparents and aunts/uncles who have passed away.
A reunion on my Mother's side was started but it only lasted for a few years. I knew when they decided to do it every two years that it would not last and it didn't. But it did help me reconnect with a special cousin that I hadn't seen in years. So some good did come out of it.
