Over the years I've tried different recipes for pie crust. I even have used the fold out pre made crust but really not a fan of them. Finally I found a recipe that I've been using for many years and have found none better. If you have pie crust issues like I did, you will like this recipe.
3 cups flour
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons cold water (I use water that has been in the fridge)
1 tablespoon of vinegar
1 tablespoon of brown sugar (I added this myself, not in the original recipe)
Mix flour, shortening, brown sugar and salt thoroughly. Then mix egg well and add water and vinegar.
Add this to the flour mixture. This is a very flaky and tasty crust. Also, easy to roll out and work with.
Now you are all set to make those wonderful pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Or whatever kind of pie you make, this crust will make a great foundation.
