I agree. It is a tough call. I think some creative compromises would be appropriate in some cases. Here in Utah we have churches all over the place and I'd love to see some of these neighbors get together and decorate that one big building instead of homes. At least the churches have parking lots and built in access for floods of traffic and there would be some semblance of control.
I also don't like to go out and look at lights when there are a ton of people out. Folks are rude. They leave their car lights on, walk on lawns or worse. For me, I frequent those places where the lights stay on late and in bad weather. Nothing better than looking at Christmas lights in a snow storm.
