Themed Christmas Ornaments...

In another part of the site I read about Themed Christmas decorations. It reminded me of something a little off kilter, but it is themed.

I'm a biologist. A really sad/disheartening three-month episode resulted in a theme that has now persisted for 15+ years.

I got an emergency call on dead/dying ducks one day. The short of it was that there was an avian botulism outbreak that had proven lethal to several hundred ducks for months. Another surprise was that it ended up in the newspaper. A little gallows humor ensued from other bio friends. At work for months duck stuff started ending up on my desk (anonymously of course). Later that year at Christmas duck gifts were left by Santa on my desk, then ornaments, etc. While it has lessened over the years, I still get duck Christmas stuff as the story has made it to each successive workplace (not from me). Over the years I have donated all the toys to charity. However, I kept the ornaments...especially the handmade stuff. The ducks theme has really become birds in general...but weighted towards ducks and geese. Weird the way it happened, but I do like them. Below is a picture of several I received last how about YOUR stories???

Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more. ---Theodor Seuss Geisel a.k.a. Dr. Seuss
