My Dog Sam
Dear Abby, I too was picked on when I was a child and I too turned to our dog Queenie. She always gave me love and she always listened. Bless you.
I do like them,Especially to the bookstore.I can get lost for hours in there.Certain stores for the kids like Build-A-Bear,shoes etc.. stores where you know that its best for them to pick their gifts out.Plus for older kids like my 17 yr old twin Nephews,Gift Cards are the best thing.
I think gift cards are good for people that you don't know personally as much and want to get something but don't know what. As a buyer, I'd much rather shop for something I know someone would want or need and give something so that I can see there face when they open it. Especially the neices and nephews and brothers. And I wouldn't ever get my wife a gift card. If I don't know something she wants then I don't need to be buying anything LOL . Sadly I have realized that this year some of the family is getting older and are probably going to have to recieve gift cards over presents.
I don't hate them but I try to give something more personal. I do give out gift cards to restaurants to my aunt who goes out to eat for lunch every day and a couple of my neighors. I have also given some walmart gift cards to some friends who were having a rough time. That way they could either get something they wanted or use it to buy grocerys.
Barnes & Noble gift cards are the only ones I like to receive. As to giving them, I've done it, but only for family and friends who asked for them as they wanted a big ticket item and wanted help with the cost.
Gift cards are ok, but I still like actual bought or made gifts more. I think a well thought-out gift card might be good. For example, if you know of a gamer, maybe a GameStop gift card would be nice. But I don't think I'd ever give someone one of those Visa cards. I had one once. It was a nice gift, but I'd probably give someone cash before giving them that card. I don't know why.
