santahat Merry Podcast #22 -- A Child's Christmas

More than an hour's worth of quality Christmas audio on episode #22 of the Merry Podcast where we explore the contribution of children to the legend and celebration of Christmas.

This episode features the childhood of three central figures in the history of Christmas. Radio Jon D also explores a child's Christmas in music plus we tell the true story of Jacob, an 8-year old boy from Washington State who just last year endured a trial and a miracle during their family's celebration of Christmas.

We also feature the latest from Paul McCartney and take a sneak peek at new music from August Burns Red this holiday season. In addition, Jay Isherwood of Merry Christmas Radio pays tribute to Andy Williams, who recently passed away at age 84.

In all, it is an outstanding preview of Christmas ahead and a great warm-up for the season.

Thanks for the note on Jacob's story. There is a back story to that whole thing I want to share.

We became aware of Jacob and his family situation last year while it was happening. Jacob has been raised with the tradition of tracking Santa via SantaUpdate.com and we contacted his father after receiving several letters that Santa received from Jacob about his mother's condition.

Originally we wanted to help this family via Santa's Sleigh but Jacob's father refused because he didn't feel his family was in need and that Santa's Sleigh would better serve other families. But it gave us an opportunity to stay close to their situation.

In the late spring of this year we finally heard from Jacob's mother, who filled us in a little more with their history here on My Merry Christmas. They are part of that vast family of folks who visit MMC but who never sign on to the forums to join in on things publicly. But they have been around with us for the entirety of their marriage and they share with us a deep love for the season of Christmas.

We have struggled for several months with how to tell this story. Most Christmas memories that get shared here on MMC are sent in via written correspondence and we either ask folks to write the story from their perspective or we might have one of our writers help them out. This one was a tough story for them to tell, for obvious reasons, and I spent three emotional phone calls hearing the story and getting the details right. There are many, many details that I cannot share that I'd like to share.

In the end, the podcast seemed the ideal place to share this story and I hope more folks will take the time to listen to the podcast to enjoy it. I know because it isn't on the site (we're working still on a written version) that not as many people will get to it.

For me personally this has been one of those experiences that make operating MMC such a joy in my life.
