Gift 4 Defending my Christmas Enthusiasm.

I recently moved to a new city, and a new state and away from alot of my family. They knew that I loved Christmas, and that I really enjoyed sharing it with them. We went shopping all the time and they would even start finding me little deals and either buying the thing, or calling me to tell me where to find it. I had a Huge Christmas party and had my outside lights strung by mid October.

All that seems to have come to a screeching halt. My daughter in law told me I was getting on her nerves when I mentioned going to a Christmas workshop. My son can't be bothered to come help with Christmas lights, so it looks like I am going to have to hire a professional to come do it for me, as my hubby has vertigo pretty bad and can't climb on the roof. I tried discussing a Christmas party with them, and they informed me that they just wouldn't have time,, so I am asking people I work with.

I can't/won't change the way I am, so, I am going to have to adapt and depend on strangers/ coworkers, to help me have the best Christmas I can.

Has anyone else ran into this kind of resistance?? What works for http://mymerrychristmas.com/forum/im...all::snowball:

Never defend or apolgize for the good things in life... try asking the naysayers what their favorite hobby (or passion) is... let's say it's, oh, I don't know, let's say "stamp collecting"... ask them (nicely) to explain what it is they love about it and/or why they love it. Listen quietly as they go on and on about it... then, at the end, just smile and say "Christmas is MY stamp collecting". That should stop 'em...

It's tough when the people you want to share something with isn't all that eager. You are brilliant for staying true to your love of christmas. I admire the fact that you are getting people you have just met onboard with your plans. Sounds like a great way to make friends in a place you have just moved to. Ten years from now these people may all be part of your new traditions.

Once it gets closer to christmas, I have a feeling your family will realise how much they miss your enthusiasm for christmas.......perhaps thery just need the christmas spirit.

goodluck and everyone here will be happy to lend support and a listening ear to get you through it....

We all have certain people in our lives that want to bring us down. But when it comes to celebrating the birth of Jesus, that is a high that stands alone.

Sometimes I think that when it comes to celebrating Christmas, those who don't truly understand the meaning of Christmas see it as and expensive and time consuming activities that involves a lot of work and compromise.
I know you want your family "on board" with you but sometimes that just doesn't happen for a reason that only God knows why.

Christmas spirit is in the heart, some hearts are dark so the spirit can't live there but we have to let our light shine so their dark place can get the light and one day, they will have the light too. And when people put aside the "what about me" they can embrace being a light for others.

Keep shining that light and celebrate Christmas. (((((hugs)))))

I understand completely! So many people are into so many worse things in life! I think it's great to focus on good, happy things in this world, it beats the alternatives!

On another discussion thread here at MMC, I called these Christmas buzz-kills "Tinsel Terrorists"... seems an apt name, don'tcha think..?
