Christmas Decorations Christmas is a hands-on art. From the lights we put on the house to the decorations we put on the tree to the great foods we eat in the process, Christmas is a time of doing -- and this is the place we gather to talk, plan and share.

Texas Christmas Light Work Shop

Come one, come all to the first semi-annual Texas Christmas Light Work Shop! (This is the third year and fourth event that Texas has held) The event is being held on September 23rd and 24th in San Antonio at the La Quinta Inn. We will have a full schedule of learning opportunities, fun and games, and social events. Having already held three of these in Texas over the past three years, we have learned that a precise schedule is not good and so we will announce we will cover things LOR and D-Light, new trends, do-it-yourself projects that we have been working on, hopefully a working ferris wheel (Dan Caron this is your verbal kick in the pants to finish that project), and many other things. Of course there will always be demonstrations of gadgets we have found and hopefully some new stuff you have never seen before!

At the Spring event at Marilyn and Dan’s house, we decide that we wanted to have a two day event because one day was just not enough time especially when you throw in a drive across this (or another) state. I have set up a special room block at the La Quinta Inn (210-657-5500) at I-35 and Toepperwein in North East San Antonio. The rooms are only $63 a night (regularly $89 via Hotels.com) and include a light breakfast and free wireless internet access. When you call, mention the “Christmas Light Work Shop” to get in on the room block.

For the event, we will have a large meeting room with our own kitchen and private bathrooms available to us. The room is large enough for 65 comfortably and has projection screens, white boards, podiums, and even TV’s mounted from the ceiling in the front of the room. The nice thing is we don’t have to pay for chairs and tables like some places do! Anyway, the cost for the event is $20 for an individual or $35 for a family to help cover the cost of the room.

One new feature that we will do is a Christmas Sweets Exchange. I am asking everyone to please bring one Christmas dish or dessert to share with others. At least two weeks before the event, I am asking that everyone email me their recipe and I will put together a FREE Christmas Light Work Shop Recipe Booklet.

We also have some more special things planned but they will not be announced until August 1st so I can get some of the details ironed out.

If you are coming to the event and you need something from Action Lighting or wireframe clips, please let me know via email as we are putting together a bulk order to save on postage and get discounts!

If you are planning on coming and haven’t done so already, please email me and let me know you are coming and how many will be in your party. So far we have close to thirty people signed up but to protect their privacy will not be listing them here. Coming Soon – a website for the Texas Christmas Light Work Shops, now and in the future!

Your website is really a joy to see. Wish you would join in the conversation here more often as you would have some great insights for the novice decorators like me. How about moving your show to Nashville?

Sorry Sheep, I am on several boards every day. Post your questions and I will do my best to help you and anyone else out!

Now as far as moving to Nashville, I am originally from Hendersonville! There is a large convention that will be held in Gatlinburg next summer. http://www.plus2007.com

I'm sure you've been to Christmas Place in Pigeon Forge. I am in hog heaven in that store! That flying Santa over the staircase is just beautiful. I may have to pack up the wife and head that way this year. Thanks. Argh! I just realized the symposium ends today! I'm stuck here at work waiting on a FedEx package. Bummer!

You are actually still a year away. They are only held in odd numbered years. The founder of the event is from Franklin BTW.
