Holiday Disasters

We're pleased to announce a new sub-section to Christmas Past to be called Holiday Disasters.

We've all had them -- despite the best laid plans Christmas goofs happen. These are easy to laugh about now. Here are our first two installments in this series:

That's How You Eat Gravy -- In this story an aged relative adds a little spice to the stuffy Christmas dinner. A great memory and a good laugh.

How to Fit Your Tree into the Car -- Procrastination is at the root of many stories of Christmas disasters. In this story, putting off getting the tree until a freak snowstorm blew in caused our storyteller to take getting the tree to new heights of Christmas hilarity.

Enjoy! (And if you have a holiday disaster story of your own to relate, please share it with us!)

Jeff

When I was living in Maryland, everyone came to our house Christmas Eve to celebrate. It was in the year of 1998; everything was ready, dinner prepared and family to arrive around 5pm. The only problem was it was snowing hard and roads were covered with ice and snow. The snow began early in the morning and family and I were on the phone discussing what to do with their travel to our house in such bad weather. We all decided to just go with it. It was an hour drive to our house but the family braved it out. It could have been a disaster but all arrived safe and sound and we had the grandest celebration ever. What we thought to be a Christmas wash out turned out to be one of our best Christmas celebrations ever.

I'm a big believer that snow on Christmas -- and especially during celebrations -- is a miracle.

I had a relative who decided to cook the turkey for Christmas, after putting it on the table we noticed the packet still stuffed inside. She had thought this was the stuffing...while we all know it's now. The turkey did taste ok though
