I know Jeff tradition as always put the wise men in the nativity scene but they were not there. I'm always cautious about posting certain facts because I do not want to offend and start a controversy.

I really do not like Nativity scenes for one reason, they keep Jesus as a baby and He is not a baby, He sits at the right hand of God in all His glory. But I do not offend because Jesus was born and that is what we are celebrating.

Yeh... if the Wise Men are there, it's an "Epiphany" scene...

I know that better than anybody.

The wisemen weren't there. In fact, we don't know exactly how many wisemen there were. The story of the Nativity is likely one of the most misunderstood aspects of the season. I've written about it extensively.

When I say "tradition" in regards to this story I am saying that it is tradition in that part of Italy, an area known for elaborate production of nativities, for them to make extra characters that people can put into their manger scenes.

I love nativity scenes. I believe it is important for people to know that the Son of God came into this world like the rest of us do -- as a baby.

I also believe it is important that we recognize the Gift he is of God. "For God so loved the world..." -- that's the central message of Christmas.

I worry about those who twist, bury, or minimize any part of the divinity of the Christ Child.

That is, in part, what this website is all about.

It's a strange thing for the Italians to want to include "extras" in their nativities (especially for such a religious country) but it's more of a sales gimmick that anything else. The fact it's being discussed at all is getting the manufacturer all the publicity he needs. I bet there are plenty of people that will google this just to see what it's all about. You probably are given a choice of characters to customise your nativity, like I'll have Jesus, Mary, Joseph, 1 donkey, 3 sheep, throw me in a couple of shepherds while you're at it....OH and I'll take an Obama and his wife as well, just to be topical"!! Next year it'll be somebody else. Not my cup of tea but it's not personally affecting me so good luck to them

As for the middle name thing during the inauguration, if that's his name, he should use it. I think it's just another press attempt to upset people by saying he's doing it for a particular reason "he wants to put a nail in the coffin of the GOP who slur his middle name and to reach out to the world's 1 billion Muslim's" It's his NAME!! He didn't pick it and if it reaches out to the world's 1 billion Muslims, surely that can only be a good thing???

Quite honestly, I'm more impressed with Obama now than before the election. I am put off by his demeanor some times -- he comes across as arrogant and lacking humility most times, to me -- but since the election I have seen him be more centrist and I appreciate that.

That people would use his middle name against him or politicize it in any way, I agree, is absurd.

Colin Powell was absolutely correct in saying that the President-elect is a transformative figure. Indeed he is, for pete's sake, Italians are sticking him in their nativities!

We should not allow our own sense of propriety about these little things overtake the bigger point: these are tough times, the world is looking for a hero and in him many see that possibility. I DON'T. But, I have to acknowledge that many others do.

And that's ok. I hope above all that Mr. Obama recognizes the extraordinary opportunity that has been handed to him. I hope he recognizes what he symbolizes to people both within and without his own country.

And I hope everything I fear about his way of thinking is completely wrong. I hope more than anything else that everything that bothers me about him is dismissed. I hope that everything everybody loves about the guy is proven to be absolutely correct.

And I hope people will leave him be to make history -- one way or the other.

I just finished reading his book "the audacity of hope". I'm quite impressed actually ! He is a very intelligent and well educated man with good intentions. He is passionate and sincere. I think that's a good base for a president.
