Dear Abby, I too was picked on when I was a child and I too turned to our dog Queenie. She always gave me love and she always listened. Bless you.
A shout out is when we mention someone. It's often associated with a request or question. Sometimes we will be talking about a thread in which folks have posted.
Remember as a kid when you would call up a radio station. make a request, and wait for your name and tune to be heard? Remember the thrill when you would hear it? It was kind of like the excitement when waking up Christmas morning! That's the same kind of feeling we're trying to capture on MCR but I guess the effect is lost on the less than forty, more sophisticated generation.
For you youngsters out there, radio stations used to listener friendly and even take calls on the air sometimes. There were even request line numbers listed in the phone book!
Nowadays most radio programming isn't even live. Radio personalities often record their shows a day or two in advance. Although they may sound live by mentioning an event "coming up today" they are not in the studio. Call up a radio station and ask to speak to the 'on air' person. In most corporate broadcast radio vampire operations, it ain't gonna happen.
Back in my younger years, we had a radio station available on the local community television and you could watch the DJ spin the tunes, fuss with his hair (don't recall any female personalities). I got in trouble (not big time) with a babysitter once because I called the guy to tell him she thought he was cute and could he play Spiders and Snakes for her. He played it and waved at the camera. They ended up dating a few times so that's why I didn't get in big trouble from her.
I was on the radio a few weeks ago for a work related thing and after a quick minute chat, we taped a slightly longer interview to be used over the weekend and it was supposed to be LIVE.
Brings back memories. I'll have to think of a song or two that O'Malley the cat really enjoys and RJD or JayIsh can shout out to him. He loves hearing his name.
