With a little less than 3 months until I start hanging the lights up I am in need of a few pointers.
I have quite a selection of outdoor lights, last year we were able to have a power strip in the car from the house for some of them but this year we don't have a car for it. We also have to run a lot of cords (sometimes really thick) out through the windows which makes our house really cold (even with packing out the gap in the window with tape and tissue.
All of our lights require a separate socket with individual transformers/plugs
We have an outdoor power spike that can take 3 sockets but not transformers as they are too big.
We have a box that we can stick up on the wall, this can take 2 power strips of 4 sockets (last year we only had the one power strip in there). The main problem is finding power strips that have the right fixings on the back to be hung inside the box.
We don't have much money to throw at the power problem (like buying another power spike or box as they come out quite expensive here in the UK) really, So I was wondering if we could use a plastic toy box with a lid and cut a small hole for a power strip cord? This could work but I'm worried about condenstation getting in the electrics and tripping the house. (I assume condensation will form in a plastic box even if well sealed)
The window problem, My parents really don't like the idea of drilling holes through our walls for the power cords because of our house built out of 2 layers of brick and a gap in the middle (like a sandwich) which holds the cavity wall insulation... quite hard to drill through I would imagine.
A little info on our lights:
Most lights are LED apart from a few rice lights (gloworm)
thin cords (able to go through windows and have them shut):
180 blue LED net (MF) light
168 blue LED icicle (MF) lights
120 multi colored (MF) gloworm X2
80 blue/white LED (MF) lights
80 blue LED (MF) lights
20 blue star LED lights
rope light silhouettes (estimated size):
snowflake (approx 2 - 3 feet across)
christmas tree x2 (approx 1 foot high)
skiing snowmen (approx 2 - 3 feet high)
reindeer (approx <1 foot)
star (approx 4 - 5 feet high 1 - 3 feet across)
2 (or 3) x 12 meter multi colored (MF)
1 x 7 foot inflatable homer simpson santa (uses a motor and has lights inside).
Unfortunately we cannot have too much lighting on the grass because last time we done it they were vandalized and the wires chopped
Final point, we live in the UK so some things may be different(ish)
I really appreciate the help!
