I LOVE that tree! Growing up, my great-grandma took me dahn tahn (downtown to all you non-Burghers) to do some shopping and we'd always stop and stare at that tree. It's been so long since I traveled all the way into town, I almost forgot about that. I'm going to have to make a trip down there this year to check it out.

Thanks for bringing back that memory, George!

We have a late night shopping festival with loads of market stands and attractions, plus of course the usual lights and tree which look nice.

Theres always lots of mini events like Christmas decoration sales and craft fairs.

Well, I live on Long Island not too far from New York City, and of course they have the whole Rockerfella Tree Lighting and the Ave of Angels which if you have never seen you may want to put on your list. I am not one to say my City is the Greatest and I am sure there are alot of great places out there but I would still say just once you should see it and not on the day they light it all up, no go when the Stars and the Cameras are gone and just walk around, it is coll to think that in this huge City a peacefulness falls over the center this time of the season.

But as for my little hometown, we have a tree light and a Verterans Memorial lighting. I also live about an hours drive west of a place called Montauk, NY and they light up a Light House (that George Washington, out 1st President commisioned be built). Pretty cool, wow I am glad this is posted now I see for myself how much I have right in driving range. There is also a small town called Stony Brook we Long Islanders know the area as Three Village, they have the annual "Trees Lighting" a bunch of different themed trees in the town center. We also have a few towns that do drive thru light shows...

So I guess there is alot to do where I live...

We live in a small town---maybe 1,500 people and my hometown, next town over, is the same. We both have an hour long parade with lots of cars and horses, a few floats. Most years there is a tour of homes, where a few people open their homes for tours to benefit the local Arts Councils. Both towns have lights up (reindeer, snow flakes, Christmas trees).

My hometown has an Old Fashioned Downtown Christmas the Saturday after Thanksgiving. They block off Main Street for carriage & hay rides, roast marshmallows, Santa is in the train car, the downtown shops are open, carolers in the gazebo.

In the town we live in (DH's hometown), we have a tree lighting in front of the courthouse and the high school band plays Christmas songs. Santa comes as well.

We're small town and we LOVE it!
